For the second year in a row, Rams quarterback Sam Bradford has suffered a torn ACL. Bradford underwent an MRI on Sunday that showed a torn ACL in his left knee, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has confirmed.

The injury almost surely means Bradford will miss the 2014 season.

The 26-year-old quarterback went down in the first quarter against the Browns on Saturday after taking a hit from Cleveland defensive lineman Armonty Bryant. Bradford was clutching his left knee as he went down, the same knee that he had ACL surgery on last season.

He was never durable in the NFL. The Rams wasted a #1 on him.

Sam played very well last year before the injury and was playing very well this preseason too. He barely got hit last night so it just seems to me like there had to have still been a problem with that knee.

It's a big setback for the Rams unfortunately and will be very tough to overcome. Shaun Hill is a good backup but I'm sure that they didn't want to have to use him as the starter.

I feel bad for Sam. He's a great guy and he's given everything he could to the Rams. Unfortunately his body just hasn't been able to take it. I'm afraid that he's done.

Offer them Landry Jones. Please.

Which is exactly why Tomlin should avoid the knee jerk reaction to play the starters more than is customary for the 4th preseason game....no matter how shitty they played last week.

The Rams already have 3 other QBs on their roster that are better than Landry. I really hope that we just cut him.

Heck, he wasn't durable before that. He was coming off major shoulder surgery going into the draft, yet the Rams were still falling all over themselves to offer him $80M. It was a downright foolish risk, and had desperation written all over it. I said back then that it was a bad idea, and it still is:

In hindsight, they probably WERE desperate. There turned out to be NO good quarterbacks in that draft, and none the previous year either, unless you count the once-in-a-generation king of garbage time, Matt Stafford (I don't). I guess it's tough to wait three years to pick a QB, but in that case it's the only thing that would've worked.

Bradford has/had all the talent to succeed, his body just couldn't hold up. And what really sucks for the Rams is their defense is probably going to be good enough to get them a pick in the teens, so they won't be in position to draft a top QB in the draft.
