Fangupo is battling hard for a roster spot and had a chance to make an impression with Steve McLendon out this practice session. Perhaps that's what sparked the second fight in 24 hours.

The Steelers hadn't had a fight in nearly 10 practices of training camp.

They decided to drastically alter that statistic.

The second brawl in two practices occurred Saturday afternoon as center Maurkice Pouncey and nose tackle Loni Fangupo had at it toward the end of the day's session.

Little skirmishes and spats are good things. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin even said after Friday's night session that had the LeBackfield tandem of Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount going after linebacker Vince Williams, and eventually assistant coach Joey Porter these things will happen from time to time.

No penalties will be thrown for these kinds of dust-ups. It's all in the nature of being competitive.

Fangupo had a particularly big reason to go 110 percent - nose tackle Steve McLendon was out - and perhaps that didn't sit well with Pouncey - the veteran who was knocked on his butt during contact-free minicamp by linebacker Ryan Shazier.

"knocked on his butt during contact-free minicamp by linebacker Ryan Shazier"

Huh? What is that supposed to mean?

That happened during one of the first OTAs. Shazier knocked over Pouncey, but no fight ensued.

What an utterly random sidenote to include in that sentence.

This is good! The starters are pissed over consecutive 8-8 seasons. This kid wants to make the team and show that he can possibly start at NT. Feisty and fighting is a good thing, IMHO.
