We knew it was coming. Hours after learning that All-Star Paul Goldschmidt (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8967/) was potentially lost for the season with a broken left hand after he was accidentally hit by an Ernesto Frieri (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8599/) pitch on Friday night, just about everybody anticipated the Arizona Diamondbacks (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/ari/) would be seeking retaliation against the Pittsburgh Pirates (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/pit/) on Saturday.

It really wasn't a matter of if, but of when and who, and even the latter part was pretty clear if the right opportunity presented itself.....

See, I just can't be hypocritical about this. If the tables were turned, Pirates fans would be demanding retaliation and would be pissed off if they didn't. So I really don't have an issue with the D-Backs drilling Cutch. However, I have a feeling the league is going to come down hard over this simply because of all the media attention and the players involved.

Meh.

Cutch isn't seriously hurt, the Pirates still won the game, the D-Backs still suck.

Big difference between hitting someone accidentally in the hands and drilling someone in the shoulder blades with malicious intent with a 95 mph heater. And as far as I know the league has done nothing about this and presumably doesn't intend to. Plus the way Cutch was set up with a low and away slider the pitch before the pitch to his back negates the "unwritten rules" free pass. Kirk Gibson and the Douchebacks are bush league. Yeah I know the Pirates are way up there in hit batsmen, yeah I know they pitch inside. That's because they got alot of mediocre pitchers that can't compete unless they establish the inside of the plate. No malicious intent. Just borderline guys that have the occasional pitch get away from them.

Those of you that excuse this are insane. I mean if someone accidentally rear ends you on the highway do you go and find their wife the next day and take a crowbar to her windshield?
