This year, the players in black and gold will be a bit younger but carry the same heavy hand when taking the field against their rivals. For Baltimore, its roster is equipped with savvy veterans and youth for depth – very similar to the design of past Pittsburgh teams. Furthermore, veteran newcomer WR Steve Smith will contribute to the most talented Ravens’ offense in over a decade. A talented core of receivers and a solid rushing attack will likely tilt this season’s matchup in Baltimore’s favor. Here are some key points.

Pittsburgh’s Defense vs Baltimore’s Offense

The addition of Steve Smith isn’t the only reason the Ravens will outscore the Steelers handily. Be mindful of two tight end sets with Dennis Pitta and Owen Daniels. Daniels – the former Houston Texans tight end – accumulated 716 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2012 before an injury-plagued 2013 season. The duo adds to a high-powered offense that features four receivers capable of making big plays. The Torrey Smith-Steve Smith tandem has a deadly combination of reliability and toughness paired with speed and the threat of the deep ball.

Torrey Smith had his first 1,000-yard receiving season in 2013 and projects to continue tapping into his vast potential. Steve Smith figures to start opposite him and enters a rivalry that describes how he plays on the field – intense. If there’s a jump-ball to be had or a first down to be made, QB Joe Flacco can depend on his new receiver to make a play.

A couple of Pittsburgh’s defensive backs are just as old and just as tough as the elder Smith, but the plethora of weapons at Flacco’s disposal puts the Steelers’ defense at risk. The Ravens were able to bring in weapons for their former Super Bowl MVP signal-caller to spread Pittsburgh out and pick it apart. The Steelers opted not to address their aging defensive backfield and it could come back to haunt them in their season series with Baltimore.

A typo in the article title automatically discredits this author. And what the hell is "football.com" anyway? Another site where any moron can submit an article and call him/herself a "journalist?"

At 5'9"? Smith's a midget. He's also 35 years old. Good luck with those "jump balls."

Who wrote this, Jamison Hensley?

Last year Ray Rice had a total 76 yards against the Steelers....and thats total for two games. Less than 3 yards per carry. SOLID!!!

And against a substantially older defense.

The Ravens/Steelers games will be close and hard-fought as usual in 2014.

As to where both teams are headed, on paper, the Steelers are going up and the Ravens are pointing down.

The Steelers have gotten significantly younger and faster on Defense, they still have Ben, They have Bell & Blount in the backfield. The only weak point I see on the Steelers is the lack of proven WR's after Antonio Brown. They dumped a bunch of ineffective veterans (Woodley, Redman, Clark), and after two years in Haley's system, Ben and the Offense is finding it's groove.

As for the Ravens, is it a coincidence that once they fed Joe Flacco that big contract, they missed the postseason?

Ravens will not win another SB for at least 10 years, if ever again. They are toast.

The running game of the Ravens was almost the worst in the history of the NFL last year in yards per carry

I can not say that the ravens running game is solid right now

I did notice the "have-Flacco-launch-a-wounded-duck-in-hopes-of-a-PI-call" passing offense which has been their bread and butter for the last couple of seasons wasn't nearly as effective without Boldin last year either.

Ray Rice is looking at a suspension, but you know what? That actually works out well for them. Bernard Pierce is a more dangerous runner than Rice at this point.

Lmfao, Steve Smith is the 5th most dangerous receiving option on that team at best after Torrey Smith, Dennis Pitta, Owen Daniels, and Ray Rice...

We will still probably split and both games will be decided by 3 points. That has been that way since 2008, except for 2011 when we got spanked.

With that being said, Bert Flaccid still sucks.
