That didn't take long.
How did he pass the team physical?

How did he pass the team physical?
Because they're the Texans.

I remember another team taking a first round pick with a sports hernia. That guy had just had surgery and was rehabbing. Worked out pretty well, if I remember right. Anyone remember his name?

Speed is not an essential component of Heath's game. If he were quicker, he would be the best TE in the league, hands down.
Clowney is going to need speed to excel at his position. If this becomes a lingering or chronic problem, his potential will never be realized.

Clowney has played in just four games.

Dogging it for his final collegiate season to "save himself" for the big show and the big money proved to be a really effective strategy, huh? Bet the Texans wouldn't mind having that #1 pick back.
Luckily for the Texans, they hit a home run (out of the park and into the parking lot) with the one-man wrecking crew that Watt has become. Hell, I'd give up the majority of our current defense in exchange for Watt by himself.

We did that straight up, we'd still get more out of it

I remember back in February and March, all the draft "experts" in the media were pumping this guy so hard it was embarrassing. Suggesting that anyone other than Clowney be the top pick made you an ignorant fool. The Texans and the other teams within trading distance had more pressing needs (such as QB), and in fact a pass rushing DE/OLB was probably last on the list of things the Texans really needed. But no, this guy was SO GOOD none of those other positions mattered. You would get crucified on message boards and comments for suggesting otherwise. "Not enough to justify the #1 pick" was a phrase that was thrown around a lot, as was, "Well tell me, genius, who else would you take with THE #1 OVERALL PICK????"
I wonder where all those know-it-alls are now. Actually, wait, no I don't - they're the ones who are loudest in proclaiming him a bust.

With or without Watt involved, first you'd have to find someone willing to take our current defense. That's a tough sell.

The Ottawa Rough Riders might be interested in Polamalu and Ike Taylor.

One guy proclaimed Clowney to be overrated. That would be Merrill Hoge. //www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y7LpIrxXTM

The best defensive rookie in the NFL this year was the Rams Aaron Donald from Pitt. Kid is going to be a superstar, a destructive force in the middle. Were he 2 inches taller he would have been considered for the first pick. Which is crazy. All you had to do was watch him play football to know he was the best defensive player in the draft. Damn I wish the Steelers would have traded up to get him. @

You might have missed the Rams rookie defensive tackle, but soon enough you'll know all about Aaron Donald. Retired NFL defensive lineman Stephen White makes the case for Donald to be a household name.
The shit wasn't even fair this past weekend against the Raiders. They had the center trying to block back on Donald while the guard to his side pulled. It did not work out well for them. That dude is so good already that he was able to beat Stefan Wisniewski up the field off the snap then change directions quick enough to get in the pulling guard's hip pocket and damn near blow up the play in the backfield. There are so few defensive tackles in the whole NFL who are athletic enough to pull that off consistently, maybe only a few in the history of the NFL, and Aaron Donald is one of them.

Two inches taller and he may not be as agile or have as much leverage so you can't just say "if he was taller". You can say "if he was taller AND doesn't diminish in other areas" sure, but just "taller"? No, that doesn't wash.
So, where did Cleo Mack go? Seems Hoge was spot on with the end results, not necessarily the reasons.

My claim wasn't that he would be a better player if he was 2 inches taller. Just that the preconceived perception of him by scouts with all else being equal would be better. It's really stupid that he was even downgraded for his height when you consider that Geno Atkins is pretty much the same size.
