Notebook: For starters, defense sharp

The Steelers’ first-team defense fared well in the two series it played.

On the Lions’ first possession, the Steelers stopped them on three downs. FS Ryan Clark ended the Lions’ second possession by intercepting a pass that set up a Jeff Reed field goal.

Clark’s pick came when a pass from Detroit RB Jahvid Best bobbled a pass from QB Matthew Stafford.

Oh I think the starting defense was lights out while they were in. Sure it wasn't many drives, but it's a very positive thing and something for the Steelers to build off of.

I thought they played a very good game as well hopefully it will carry over into the season.

Yes, the defense apparently looked good....against the Detroit Lions. Of course, that's better than the defense looking bad against the Lions, I suppose. Better test this week.
