View Full Version : Steelers To Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Team's First Championship

The Steelers will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of their first championship, Super Bowl IX, with a variety of events and features throughout the 2014 season.

Some highlights throughout the season include:
The team will wear a special Super Bowl IX 40th Anniversary patch on their uniform versus the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, November 30.
The team’s annual Alumni Weekend, which is November 29-30, will celebrate the team’s 40thAnniversary victory in Super Bowl IX.
On November 29, Heinz Field will host the Alumni Weekend Dinner Galawith proceeds benefiting the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program and The Cancer Caring Center.
Players from the Super Bowl IX Championship Team will be introduced at the event and will share their stories from the 1974 season.
Players from the Super Bowl IX Championship Team will be recognized at halftime when the Steelers face the Saints.

I was 9 years old at a birthday party in Miami. Needless to say I was the only Steelers fan there. Growing up I always knew they would win the Super Bowl if they made it. There was hope even with the 1976 team, but was not upset when they didn't make it because they were coming off back-to-back wins.

Also this year is the ten year anniversary of the first 15-1 Steelers team. They didn't win the super Bowl, but 15-1 is still freaking awesome.

Especially with a rookie QB...It was a special year and it was a big surprise, since the steelers were 6-10 in 2003

The lost against the patriots hurts, but at least the Steelers have won the Super Bowl the year after
