View Full Version : Steelers Helmets W/O numbers in front?

Just wondering after watching the game from last night I noticed no numbers on front of helmets never noticed this before. Is this a pre-season thing maybe or have they just removed the numbers permanently from front of helmets, just wondering if any knows this or noticed this

Yup. Nobody gets to wear the number on their helmet until they're officially on the squad.

Hines always puts his name on a piece of tape across his helmet like the rookies do.

you are correct. No numbers till it's cut down to 53.

yeah I saw a neat article about the Steelers uniforms on another site Behind the Steel Curtain last year. I learned a lot of neat things like that and did you know Troy wears a cross on the back of his uniform which is technically illegal but because it is mostly covered by his hair nobody ever really sees it.

Actually, I think the Polamalu cross thing ended up being a hoax.

It's an ongoing process. Last I counted we were at 79.

As slash said, It is ongoing, BUT there are mandatory cut dates:

August 31 - Rosters cut to 75
September 4 - Rosters cut to 53

That is why, traditionally, the 4th game of pre-season is used mostly for those "on the bubble" decisions.
