The Pittsburgh Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT)' failure to make the postseason the past two seasons largely can be blamed on a defense that has looked old and slow at critical moments. Despite the team's attempts to add young, talented defenders in prior drafts, the patchwork unit didn't mesh in 2013, falling short of the lofty standards set in a city that was once home to the Steel Curtain.

Looks to me like they are going for Steel Lightning. I have missed the gang tackling for the last few seasons. Can't wait to see how this new speed translates to the game plan.

Definitely a glass is half full article.

Still, the Steelers have acquired lot of defensive pieces this offseason that could turn this team around.

Let's hope the Steel Lightening gang pans out better than the Young Money crew did.

Any time you have a name with the work money in it, it seldom works out well.

If these guys turn out well enough we may be calling this defense "The Swarm"

I can't wait to see those ILB cross blitzes with Shazier and Timmons. That has some serious potential.

BRING THE PAIN! Sometimes when we stand, facing down our foes, what you have to do is make a plan, stay calm, and carry out the attack. But I tell you what brother, The mind is a terrible thing... when our opponents stand against us we can't let them form that plan, we have to strike fear into their hearts. And that's how you win a football game... BRING THE FEAR, BRING THE HURT, BRING THE PAIN

They are going to unleash hell and defend every blade of grass.

"It's not out of the ordinary for the rookies to play with the first wave of terror, if you will, in the first preseason game"

The offseason scorecard the way I see it:

DL: +
LB: +
S: +
CB: ehhhhhh... (shrugs sheepishly)

Hopefully that one weakest link doesn't turn out as weak as we feared, and then this defense ought to be bad ASS.

The last time we had a truly elite defense was 2008. The corners that year weren't anything special either. Plus I think Cortez Allen is a lot better than people believe.

Are you STILL pimping Allen? :chuckle:

I also think he has a lot of potential.

YES ....

I do not believe last year was a true representation of his skills , missed Preseason , hurt early on in regular season never came into form until end of the year do to it all ....

2014 will be a VERY different year IMO for Tez ( provided he avoids the injury bug )

Do you think Allen may try to do things athletically that his frame is just not built for.

6'1 - 196 IMO that is Ideal size and far better than " average " ..should be able to do it all
