Ramon Foster proves you don't have to be a team captain to be a leader. He isn’t a loud, vocal guy, whose voice is always heard booming in the locker room. Actually it’s quite the opposite as he is one of the more soft-spoken players on the team.

He isn’t a team captain, but that doesn’t mean for a minute that Ramon Fosterhttp://www.steelers.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/ramon-foster/200381ee-4d12-425e-b3bd-4f4bca965e35/) isn’t considered a leader by his teammates, looked upon as one of the most respected players on the team.

When you look at the locker room, Ramon is like the father figure,” said linebacker Jarvis Joneshttp://www.steelers.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/jarvis-jones/92ceebdf-6088-4872-abf0-69a36014c8d2/). “I am a rookie, so I don’t know how the older guys look at it. But for me he is. He is well respected. One of the best personalities you can have. He is willing to do anything for you, from helping you with any situation, to talking.

“When I first got here he was one of the first people to take me in and show me the city, places to eat. He told me how I need to go about my day as far as preparation, how to take care of my body, all of those things.”

Foster also has lent a hand to younger teammates with on-field tips, including defensive end Brian Arnfelthttp://www.steelers.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/brian-arnfelt/cf861f63-bfa2-4a9c-b7a4-40be3d749b2c/) who credited Foster with helping with his adjustment to the NFL...........

Thanks for posting, Stillers! I love reading articles like this. It just make you feel good to read about a guy like this: not necessarily a hero pulling kids from a burning building or something, but just a genuinely good guy who is a mentor to his young teammates and an all around decent dude. It shows that you don't have to necessarily be a super star with freakish athletic talent to have a really positive impact on those around you.

Nice change of pace story about an NFL player rather than who got arrested or who got suspended and of course- who doesn't like girls.

It's good to read about the guys that are stepping up and taking over the leadership roles. We lost a lot of those in the last few years.

Talk is cheap, taking up the mantle is another matter entirely.
