A group of retired NFL players says in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that the league, thirsty for profits, illegally supplied them with risky narcotics and other painkillers that numbed their injuries for games and led to medical complications down the road.

The league obtained and administered the drugs illegally, without prescriptions and without warning players of their potential side effects, to speed the return of injured players to the field and maximize profits, the lawsuit alleges. So they didn't know there was some inherent risk involved with the things being put into their bodies? Did someone put a gun to their head and force them to play pro football? North Dallas Forty was released in 1979. That film pretty much laid it all out there. If they were too stupid to take the hint then that's on them. There's a lot of ex cops, ex firemen, ex steelworkers, ex construction workers etc... Who got pretty broke up on the job, difference between them and these players is they never were at the top of the mountain from a financial standpoint. Best they ever did was get by, and that's basically all they'll ever do. But what they don't do is bitch and think the world owes them for ever for every ache and pain they have.

My all-time favorite sports movie. Peter Gent also took a ton of shit for writing the book, from what I understand.
