After how poorly the Steelers used Rainey, I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

Different o line coach.

Same OC. This team has far too many needs to take a "toy" in the 3rd round.

I don't believe thats fair at all. Rainey had/has big problems with his attitude and work ethic.

Nor should we be getting our hopes up for Archer given the fact that this offense really didn't need another smurf.

Bell and Blount are not Smurfs

No, but the WRs are. They needed to get a big target, not a scat back that will probably see very limited snaps.

so u have Lance Moore, Moye , Justin Brown and HeywardBey, all over 6'0 whats the chances a rookie taken past rd 3 even makes the 53 Roster. Archer is a triple threat

Sweed was a big target and failed, the success is within the player and not his size.

1st of all, lance moore is 5'9'', justin brown sucks and couldnt even make the roster, and heyward bey has some size but he has no idea how to use it and is a raiders reject for a reasion. lets be completely serious here. Our top receivers are easily antonio brown 5'10'' 186lb, lance moore5'9'' 190lb, marcus wheaton 5'11'' 182lb, and at this point, a good chance that dri archer is the 4th, at 5'8'' and 175lb. this is a smurf-corp, not a wide receiver corp.

size isnt everything, but most of the people on here just say that because its the most convenient thing to say to make themselves feel better instead of facing reality. there are just some things that a behemoth wr/te (that uses their frame and actually have a huge catch radius) can do that the smurfs cant, and thats what we lack. where this offense needs the most improvement is not moving between the 20's, but PAST the 20's. With dri archer, we've mostly just improved our ability to move between the 20 yard lines.

If anyone still doesnt consider size a big deal, let this sink in for a moment:

12 of the top 15 TD reception leaders in the NFL last season were 6'3'' or taller, and 11 of the top 15 were 214lb or heavier.

12 of the top 15 receiving yard leaders in the NFL last season were also 6'3'' or taller, and 12 of the top 15 were 214lb or heavier. Only 2 were under 207lb. (desean jackson and our very own antonio brown)

Stats i calculated via NFL.com in a different thread

So all big targets are failures because Sweed was?

I have no argument, I'm fine with the pick and will sleep well tonight.

It's not the size of your flanker... it's how you use it.

there are some things the bigger guys can do that smaller guys cant. A 6'5'' 225lb. receiver with 33in. arms that maximizes their catch radius is going to be able to snag more balls from hard to reach spots than a 5'10'' 185lb. receiver with 29in. arms. You havent said it, but many people on this board have made baseless points along the lines of "oh, a couple inches or pounds isnt going to be a big deal," but it is, and the statistics agree:

12 of the top 15 TD reception leaders in the NFL last season were 6'3'' or taller, and 11 of the top 15 were 214lb or heavier.

Moye and J. Brown are practice squad WRs. Heyward-Bey is making league minimum and may not even make the final roster after preseason. Is that the best the Steelers can do for their franchise QB? If so, that's pathetic.
