This should be interesting to see if he can jump start his career here.

This is a good move, much needed depth has been supplied

He was pretty consistent in a crowded backfield for years until last year. Perhaps another solid slot WR.

I'm ok with this signing. Not a superstar but some depth in case Wheaton flops.

That's very good news. I was beginning to think our plan was to fill out the roster with homeless people, since we weren't actually replacing most of the players who left.

Question to the board. Salary aside, if you could trade Moore for Cotchery straight up would you do so? I would. Nothing against Lance, but he's a munchkin. Also Cotch has developed a chemistry with Ben that can't be duplicated overnight no matter if the talent pretty much equals out of not.

Losing Sanders was inevitable. But Cotch was a surprise and a real setback. My optimism for 2014 is waning somewhat.

I hope they add another competent body to the receiving corp before the season be it another veteran or a good draft pick.

Look I like Cotchery as much as the next guy. I get that. I don't get all the doom and gloom over his leaving. In his 3 years with the Steelers he caught 79 passes. He scored 12 touchdowns, 10 of which were in 2013. His averages are 27 receptions and 4 touchdowns per season.

Lance Moore almost beat that production last year being about the 217th option in a loaded Saints offense.

The point is that the slot receiver position in the Steelers offense is not a spot where anything besides an interchangeable veteran piece is required. Lance Moore is that.

What I think is far more concerning is what the Steelers plan is for when the 500+ touches Bell is slated for cause him to disintegrate on the field. The current back-up running back is who?

I would rather have Cotch but I think in the wake of his leaving, Moore was about as good as they could have done to replace that position. I have mixed feelings on Cotch leaving. He had a career year so I was sure someone was going to overpay him, but he didn't really leave for that much more. Hmm.

I suppose I'm more worried about whether Wheaton will pan out. He pretty much has to now and it feels like they're caught in a trap now that they've signed Moore. Because if they sign or draft someone to play across from Brown now, where does it leave Wheaton?

better than nothing , but 5'9" is not exactly what Ben has been asking for , we are still in short supply at WR

I think that for all the people who say we'll miss Cotchery ... we would have missed him anyway, even if we re-signed him. He had a career year, or at least by far the best year in the latter part of his career. Pretty slim odds we'd get that kind of production again. The only thing that would be inexcusable would be letting him go with NO ONE in mind to replace him, which I was admittedly worried about.

We got a talented, veteran, #3 WR to replace a talented, veteran, 3# WR. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't think this will impact our plans to draft a WR at all. I believe we have been planning to draft a WR fairly high from the beginning.

The backfield won't be as crowded here as it was for him in NO.

And it shouldn't prevent the Steelers from drafting two in a deep crop.

I also think he brings playoff experience which never hurts..........

Cotchery isn't anything special...actually much less than special. He was almost non-existent in his time with the Steelers up until a good few games last year. Lance Moore's production will probably be similar. Still missing a starting WR to pair with Brown...even if Cotchery was here...they'd still be missing it.

They've won multiple Super Bowls without what "Ben has been asking for..." Not every team can have Calvin Johnson. If they want height, Burress is still there.

I suppose I'll wait to see the contract details before I decide how I feel about the signing.

Pros:
He's a little more talented than Cotchery, a year younger, a few less miles on him...

Cons:
But he's 4 inches shorter and doesn't know our system. Not sure how much you need to know really to be a slot guy, but that's that. Don't know how tall you need to be either. He's about the same size as Randle El (and probably a little better than Randle El) and we loved him.

If he gets more money to what Cotch got, then it seems pointless to have let Cotch go unless there's something we're not hearing about, a behind the scenes situation. If he gets similar or less money than what Cotch got, it's a win.

The height problem with Moore isn't a problem with Moore specifically, but that Ben doesn't have anybody at all who's tall in the WR corps. I mean he's got Heath Miller. If Ben has a huge problem with it I imagine they might do something like sign Burress to take redzone snaps, who knows.

much rather get two WRs in a deep draft than bring back a washed up Plax.....

Moye is 6"5 and runs a 4.5 40.

I know he didn't show much last year...

However has a strong work ethic and may surprise this year.

Another "who gives a shit" signing. I don't like smurf WRs. He's a decent possession receiver but I'm not gonna get excited about signing him. No other team was even interested.

Agreed.

I hope between Wheaton, Moye and J. Brown that someone shows some solid potential this year.

Also, while our defense may be dreadful this year I am warming up to the idea of possibly picking up a receiver in the first.

Ben's window may be closing so might as well load'em up and light a match.

This is a decent signing. Not great, but I personally think that he'll be more of a contributor than we realize. Sean Payton and Todd Haley do have some ties together from their time under Parcells in Dallas, with Haley coaching Wr's and Payton being the passing game coordinator. I would think that some of the things that Haley incorporates into his offense will be quite familiar to Moore. We'll see.
