they let an all pro quality LT go in FA for LESS than thy signed Saffold who was a highly thought of draft prospect in his own right and potential LT ( but failed to deliver the good in the NFL ) and was moved to guard

Saffold is a good lineman that can play T or G. His biggest problem has been injuries. He's not worth anything close to what the Raiders gave him though.

It sounds like someone on the Raiders realized what a big mistake that contract was and bailed out.

The Rams are happy to have him back. This signing also means that the Rams won't be drafting an OL with the 2nd pick. Look for Watkins with that pick if they don't trade down.
