it better be an extension and not a restructure

EDIT: oh duh, this upcoming season was the final year of his contract so of course its either an extension or pay cut

I Hope it is a 3 year 12-15 million extension that turns most of his current deal into a signing bonus

well this is the final year on his current deal so it is either ...

1) a reduction in pay ...

OR

2) an extention that will spread the current deal over the length of a new deal in the form of a signing bonus

that being said hopefully it is #2 and the extra years are affordable ones

I am almost certain it would be an extension ... we could save about $3M with an added two years.

He is one of the guys I am wary of doing this too much longer with. We start pushing things out too many more years into the future and eventually we WILL see his play start to decline.

theres no way its a pay cut. we cant possibly validate and have had heath agree to a pay cut when he's 2 seasons removed from a pro bowl season and still managed to play decently being rushed back into action for 14 games. i pray its a cheap extension.

I doubt its a pay cut too , but other than an ext that is the only option to get his 2014 number down so figured it should be mentioned

Seriously how about giving these guys PAY CUTS for crying out loud?!?!

Pay cut? Why would he even accept a pay cut? Lol. To at worst be released and then signed to a longer termed deal with another team?

Heath's production during his career has been about average for a number one TE.

So what's an average number one tight end make per year? 5 - 6 mil?

somewhere in that area , but we all know Heath is much more than his number as a pass catcher

But passing stats dont take blocking ability into consideration. Heath is one of the most well rounded TE's in the game...and has been for years.

UPDATE: http://www.steelersdepot.com/2014/03/report-steelers-gave-te-heath-miller-a-two-year-extension/

2 year extension, clears up $3,333,334 in cap space for us, lowers heath's base salary to $1.02 million for 2014 (was supposed to earn a $6.02 million base salary for 2014 so $5 million was turned into a signing bonus. His base salary will be $4 million in 2015 and 2016, and it isn't guaranteed.

EXCELLENT deal for us. If Heath gets hurt or fails to perform, we can cut him in 2015 or 2016 with only $1.7 million in dead money for either year.

Great move to extend Heath and Troy today.

I like the way that turned out. Both this and the Polamalu deal did a lot for damage control on all the idiot contract restructures we've done over the years. Very glad to see the crippling dead money charges spread out to get an amount that is still on the high side but stays flat.

Hopefully we know better than to fuck with either of these guys' contracts any further, because after this, you probably can't undo it with another extension.

at the end of the day Heath took a hit for the team , and showed he wants to retire a steeler

The Pittsburgh Steelers' salary-cap situation did not cost a couple of veteran players their roster spots. It actually led to contract extensions for each.

Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu and tight end Heath Miller signed three-year contracts Wednesday, securing their foreseeable futures in Pittsburgh while also helping the Steelers shed salary in regard to the 2014 cap.

The Polamalu deal is for $20 million total and saves Pittsburgh $4.5 million against the cap this year, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter

Miller signed a two-year extension through the 2016 season that will reduce his cap hit for 2014 by more than $3 million, according to multiple reports.

Polamalu and Miller each was entering the final year of his contract with respective cap hits of $10.89 million and $6.14 million, according to ESPN roster management.

What about Evander? Or Maurkice? Actually, they should think about extending Cameron now, before he has a monster season.

I normally wait until they retire, however I think its safe to buy a Heath jersey now.

That is basically what I wrote on his Facebook page. Even though his is inhis decline ( and still better than half the league), I am thanking the Football gods that Troy is all ours.....never, ever to wearing any other colors!

A friend of mine...(and a member of SU from Australia) said perfectly yesterday....

Anthony Battaglia (https://www.facebook.com/Tones.battaglia) For all pro-athletes, this is a shining example of staying HUMBLE… to not be expecting too much from contract extensions in your twilight years and being loyal to the same team who traded UP to get you.. (Round 1 -pick 16 / 2003 for a first, third & sixth!!! from Kansas City).

I'm really happy that we'll be able to see Heath and Troy retire as Steelers. I think it was great that both sides came together to get these deals done and I'm looking forward to seeing those two for the next few years. I think Heath will have a better year coming up and I hope Troy can stay healthy and actually play safety. :chuckle:
