another source says he is going to be released
FOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports the Seahawks will release LE Red Bryant.
The move would save $5.5M in cap room. Per Marvez, GM John Schneider plans to use the money toward re-signing free agent DE Michael Bennett. A former defensive tackle and disappointing 2008 fourth-round pick, Bryant's career was resurrected when Pete Carroll arrived in Seattle, converting him to a mammoth run-stopping "five-technique" end. Bryant signed a five-year, $35M deal in 2012 and is owed $7.5M in salary and bonuses in 2014. Once the transaction goes down, Bryant will become an attractive free agent. He turns 30 in April.

he has experience playing DE in a 3-4 as well. Ever since aaron smith retired, bryant has been the best 3-4 DE that no one has heard of. Great under the radar signing. he would be a great stopgap signing to shore up that DE spot opposite of heyard while we find a replacement (seeing how he is going to be 30 in april).
Cant find much of an injury history on him except for a minor concussion last season and a left knee cartilage injury from 6 years ago. Thoughts?

Personally, I'd rather we find someone younger instead of a guy who we're going to have to turn right around and start looking for HIS replacement. I guess that's what Hood was supposed to be for, but ... whoops, we blew it on that one.
Still wouldn't mind a guy like this if he came cheaply, but for $7M or even $5M, it's probably more than we can afford. I doubt he's going to go under the radar; the fact that "Seahawks" and "DE" are in front of his name pretty much guarantees that this offseason.

Kimo was about the same age when he signed with us and he had a great run, despite having a much more disconcerting injury history. i tend to agree with the price tag situation, but theres no way he'll be able to make the same $7 million a year coming off a season where he played 30 snaps a game. dare to dream haha

It's just hilarious to me that only in professional sports is 30 considered "old." He's still a young guy! I understand why that is, of course, but it's still funny.

If we ever signed him, would that mean that DA STEALERS STOLE RED BRYANT? :chuckle:

Like I said, for the right price, he'd be worth having. I just have my doubts as to whether that'll be possible. He may not get $7M, but my gut feeling is he'll still be overpriced because everyone wants to poach the Super Bowl winner's free agents.
"He only played 30 snaps a game? Just think of what he could do if he played twice as much! Therefore, we should sign him and double his pay!"

30 is prime time for these guys , only question is how many years beyond 30 can they go ...
35 is not unheard of ......
34 is pretty normal ....
4 years gives a team loads of time to find the next guy up ..... if he could be got at the right price IMO well worth a look not everyone can be 24

this is what i was thinking. hell, even half that is fine with me. maybe give al woods and nick williams some more time to develop their skills. nick williams has the physical tools to become a FREAK. And with arguably the best D-line coach in the league, never a wise idea to count any of our D-linemen out
