Now if Haley steps out of line, Porter can sic his dogs on 'em!

Or maybe we can get a return of Porter as an internet advice columnist:

I can't wait until Peezy pulls a young player off the field for trash talking, Look him straight in the eye. And then proceeds to say; "son we don't trash talk like that around here ... [long pause] .. do it like this instead ....."

Well, it sure beats the hell out of losing all your money in casinos.

Seriously, though, this is great news. He might be just the guy we need to keep the team from sleepwalking through preseason and preparations. And lord knows we have an OLB or two in need of some coaching, and one in need of a swift kick in the butt, though hopefully the latter is out the door before training camp rolls around.

i loved Porter, but at this point we have no idea what he brings to the table. He never appeared to me the mentoring type to me. IDK

Well I hope he is all that. Because lord knows we need some sacks. I like what the bears did bringing in the karate guy that trained Tamba Hali. One could hope Joey has some skillz to teach.

Just based on that guy's numbers, he would be a STEAL if we got him in the mid to late rounds, which is sounds like is where he is projected. Of course, since I haven't seen him actually play, who knows if he's actually the kind of player whose skills will translate into NFL success, but it's exciting to think about. Finding some decent LBs and linemen in the third and fourth rounds, instead of the first and second, is what we need to be doing these days if we're going to replenish our talent at the other positions that sorely need it.

Part of me is excited about this pickup. However, after the problems with Haley outside of football, I'm not certain about bringing in another troubled person. Joey took care of his outside business while he played for the Steelers, but once he left, he had too much outside baggage for my taste.

Here's hoping he can put that away and do a good job coaching our guys.
