A grand opportunity for the 3 rookie linebackers...

He probably wasn't going to make the team anyway. Best wishes on a full recovery, though, Andre.

My thoughts exactly...with then drafting Worilds and Gibson...Frazier was on the outside looking in, unless one of them got hurt...unfortunately for him, he got hurt...but hey he still gets to be apart of the team though, as most (including me) had him getting cut.

The actual headline

Steelers Sign Renkart; Place Frazier on IR

Welcome to the camp special teams, Rutgers dude

Brandon Renkart

Renkart (6-2, 245) was originally signed a free agent by the New York Jets in July, 2008 before being waived prior to the start of the regular season. He spent time on the Jets’ practice squad in 2008 and then was released following their 2009 training camp. Renkart spent time on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice during the 2009 season and then was signed to the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad on Dec. 30, 2009. He was recently waived by the Colts.

The injury is blow for him but Frazier was more than likely not making this team anyway. Now he can sit on the IR collect a paycheck and get another shot at a roster spot in next season's (if there is a next season) camp.

Why the consensus that Frazier was not going to make the team? I thought he was one of our STs aces, and that we were finally taking STs seriously.

I'm thinking he was a bright spot in ST last year, but I could be wrong.

a bright spot on our ST from last year is nothing to brag about

No, but it is something to build upon. Too bad he's hurt and out for the year.

We lost one of the best if not the best player on last seasons ST's hands down.

He was a ST beast last season. This will hurt depth wise.

It sounds very McHugh-ish. Not a serious injury, but you don't have anywhere to stash him and you don't want to have to release him.

Do like Sylvester a lot though. Has a ton of special teams experience.

Pretty much its a numbers thing...they drafted Worilds and Gibson to be the OLB backups (where Frazier played)....and theres no way those dont make the team...even if Worilds is missing some practice he wouldnt go anywhere based on draft pick status alone. Gibson has been tearing it up in camp and he isnt going anywhere. They both will contribute on ST also...so there was no need (or space) to keep Frazier around unless there was an injury to one of these 2.

I don't think it is that big of a loss we have some young people a waiting to tear it up on special teams.
