By no means did that version of the Star-Spangled Banner suck. To say that it did is an insult to the performer and the hard work she has put in to home her skills as a world class opera singer.
Not your "cup of tea?" I have no problem with that.
Sorry. I have studied classical music, both vocal and instrumental, for the better part of 32 years. I get a little sensitive when people blatantly put something down they know little to nothing about.

Yep, I stuck around long enough watching this game wondering if he would say something stupid about SB XL, and there it was. I said out loud the same exact words....well almost, it was "Fuck Off Joe Buck" to be exact.

Well, it wasn't as blatant as Madden and Michaels back in '09 when we played in SB XLIII and lardass Holmgren was a "special guest" on the STUDIO CREW.

Hindes, I totally get what you're saying. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. Opera is certainly not a mainstream genre of music within the American culture.
I guess what I'm saying is that if you couldn't stand it, that is one thing. As a professional musician/teacher, I can say with 100% certainty that the performance did NOT suck. It was performed VERY well. That is not my opinion, that is fact.
However if you are not a fan of operatic music, then it probably sounded like nails scratching across a chalkboard. I would say that you can't stand the style of music, and that's ok.

we have to agree to disagree on this one , I am not an opera fan by any stretch , but I can appreciate talent in any genre even if it is not my cup of tea Luciano Pavaratti (sp ) per example was a FINE singer , just not my preferred genre but I can appreciate his talent ... what I heard last night was all over the place with pitch issues and out of key multiple times , it was just BAD ... granted I am not trained in classical music but I know key and pitch and have a family full of musicians ( on both sides ) and for a few years I had a recording studio in my house and was a sound engineer in clubs for live bands .... no I am not an " expert" but it doesn't take a chef to realize the food is spoiled ....

more than the few here think it sucked .... some people with more exp in the music industry than us also felt it sucked twitter blew up and @BlakeShelton openly stated his displeasure with it saying ( paraphrasing ) I am glad they didn't teach it like that when I learned it .... he was just 1 that I seen but I remember what he said better than the others

Dwins, I get what you're saying, and I realize what I am saying probably makes me sound like an arrogant bastard. Just because a handful of people on here expressed their displeasure about the performance and also because Twitter blew up with many negative tweets doesn't mean that she sucked. Like I said before, (I'm sticking to it) it's more the style that people didn't/don't like. It wasn't anywhere close to the mainstream style of music that so much of America listens to on a daily basis. Somebody like Blake Shelton certainly isn't going to convince me otherwise.
Personally, I'm not as big a fan of operatic sopranos as I am of operatic Baritones/Tenors.....however I respect the craft and the hard work she and others have put in to what they do. I'll take someone like Pavarotti (RIP) over Renee Fleming any day. She was not pitchy in the least, just different....as was the arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner. I could be a real nerd and analyze the music and show you just how complex it really is, but I have 2 little babies at home to chase around the house. It just wasn't anything close to resembling "mainstream" music. I can assure you that there are/were just as many tweets and/or Facebook posts that praised what she did Sunday evening.
I am speaking about this from a purely music standpoint. I'm not referring to anything having to do with the actual music industry. They are 2 different entities in my eyes. Most of the music out there today is complete crap, but it's the execs in the music industry that know how to market the hell out of the artists to appeal to the masses, not to mention the miracles that the sound engineers work in the recording studios. Taylor Swift live versus recorded is a prime example. But...the product she can sell is very marketable. I am very confident that I have as much musical knowledge than many of the "popular" artists out there. Knowledge about marketing it? Not so much. Sadly, I believe that modern music is about money, and not the quality of the product anymore.
Anyway...enough rambling on my part. I truly don't mean to be so argumentative on this... it's the only topic on this message board where I can hold my own with the "Big Boys." You'll notice I stay pretty much far away from posting in the draft forum, unless I want to sound like a complete moron. I know my limits, darn it.
Cheers.:drink:
I bet Tom Brady sounds like an operatic soprano when he sings in the shower.

My wife and I rather enjoyed the anthem. It was "classy". Her falsetto was brilliant.
I guess that is why there are so many different genres of music. Variety is the spice of life.

I know this thread was for an NFL game but Joe Buck sucks. His call for the NLCS on the HR by (former Pirate) Travis Ishikawa was weak. "The Giants win the Pennant!"
Weak.
