Total garbage response from the league. Keep this mentality and eventually there will be an incident, a turnover or something, that will put the coach "behind the play" right in the middle of the action.

Yes, I completely agree. I realize in a case like Tomlin's interference, the play was (maybe) directly impacted. But Harbaugh is several STEPS onto the field on this play. As you suggested, if that ball had been picked, Captain Munnerlyn can likely cover the distance between the end zone and Harbaugh's position before Harbaugh can make the sideline. It's unbelievable this is being blown over. A ridiculous precedent has now been set. NO ONE but 22 players and officials should be allowed on the field during game play period.

So accidental wandering out a little bit onto the field, the iron draft docking fist comes down, dude runs out to center field and it's cool. Got it. More of the consistency we've come to expect from the NFL.

Harbaugh wants to be in the action too. He is an attention seeking whore like his brother.

November 2013:

NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said on Tuesday's edition of NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" that Tomlin should have been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

"Any time a player or a coach from the sideline is in this white area, that's a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct," Blandino said. "If they interfere with the play, it could be what's called a 'palpably unfair act.'"

January 2014:

During the divisional round, photos emerged of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on the field, as well as 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh.

But since both Carroll and Harbaugh were behind the play, the league doesn’t see it as a problem.

“The practical application of the rule is that unless there is interference with a player or game official, it is not going to be called,” an NFL spokesman told PFT via email on Monday. “The officials will not turn and look for this behind the play.”

So what changed in the last month-and-a-half? And I don't want to hear that it was a case of semantics. The NFL is more than lawyered up enough to know exactly what to say and when to say it.

Well to be fair, Harbaugh was called for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Only because he was throwing a tantrum.

Perhaps the reason it wasn't called was because all the officials had their backs to him, because they were watching the play? I can't really blame them for concentrating on the live action instead of some guy 20 yards up the field where no players are. He did end up getting a penalty anyway, you know.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if shit-for-brains didn't continue to hold a draft pick over our heads for it more than a month after the fact...

Yes, that's my issue too. This was a punishable offence according to the league office a few months ago, and still -- considering they are holding the draft picks over our heads. It should be a punishable offence in this instance, too.

It's idiotic that they're threatening us with losing a draft pick, regardless of what anyone else did. I'm not so much of the mind that they should punish everyone else just as harshly to "be consistent," as much as they shouldn't even be talking about draft picks at all for anyone. I don't think that should ever come up unless you literally ran onto the field and tackled someone, and was holding a steroid needle in his hands, and it affected the playoffs.

Tomlin never made contact with the field of play. He was in the no mans zone, the white stripe that distinguishes the playing area from where the players and coaches are supposed to stand. Most teams have what they call a "get back coach" to warn players off who stray into the white zone.

Harbaugh is clearly on the field of play! If there's an interception how long is it going to take him to get where he belongs, and how the hell can the league proclaim he wont impact the play? What he did was worse than what Tomlin did.

Fuck Roger Goodell. :upyours: Chicken shit cocksucker that he is!

That the officials missed it is one thing. that the league is soft soaping this and Harbaugh and the 49'ers aren't being threatened with punishment is where the problem lies.

Well, they're fuckers, and that's pretty much all there is to it.

How about different discipline in the same damn game!

PFT has confirmed with the league that 49ers running back Frank Gore was fined $7,875 for grabbing Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis‘ facemask while pass blocking during the second quarter of the game. The play was penalized during the game. 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin was not penalized for a head butt, but was fined the same amount as Gore.

Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn was penalized for a head butt during the game, which helped the 49ers move into position for a field goal, but did not get fined by the league. Cornerback Josh Thomas did pick up a $7,875 fine for throwing a punch in the direction of 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton, however.

Panthers safety Mike Mitchell was not fined after getting penalized for hitting a defenseless Vernon Davis nor was 49ers linebacker Dan Skuta fined after being flagged for roughing the passer.

So the rules are, if they throw the flag and it screws you, we'll not bother to fine you? But if you get away with it we'll get ya later
