Ike Taylor (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4583/ike-taylor) is among the Steelers veterans who probably have to take a pay cut to stay in Pittsburgh for another season.

Taylor’s base salary is $7 million in the final year of the four-year deal he signed in 2011, and the Steelers cannot justify paying him that for several reasons.

They have to shed significant salary this offseason because of the cap, and Taylor is no longer a No. 1 cornerback.

Heck, he might not even be a cornerback at this point of his career. Taylor hinted after the Steelers’ final game that a switch to safety could be in his future, and the move would make a ton of sense because of precedence and the Steelers’ need on the back end of their defense.

Two of the Steelers’ greatest cornerbacks moved to safety later in their career. One of them, Carnell Lake (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/219/carnell-lake), happens to coach the Steelers' defensive backs and would be invaluable in helping Taylor make that transition.................

whomever wrote this article should brush up on their facts before doing so in the future ...

Lake was a S turned CB when Woodson went down with a knee and was superb in doing so , they make it sound as though he was a CB and moved to S in the twilight of his career and its simply wrong ...

as a side note Lake was a LB in college and made the move to S after he was drafted by the Steelers

i dont even want ryan clark back at vet minimum. i thought he was that bad. every big run we gave up this season had an embarrassing missed ryan clark tackle involved.

i want troy and shamarko starting next season, with will allen and a early round draft pick in tow. Maybe Robert Golden again if they seem something in him (we usually carry 4-5 safeties right?). im not sure where that leaves ike if he were supposed to make the switch. i just dont see a back up safety/washed up cornerback at $7million practical. My only feelings of tentativeness about letting him go come from my lack of confidence in the rest of the corner backs.

Curtis Brown is still just a special teamer in his 3rd season and hasnt been able to find the field as a defender. And when he has, he looked awful (see--> 2012 Chargers game). Cortez Allen has gone from looking insanely promising as a nickel corner and his 2 starts his 2nd season, to pretty bad to the point he was even benched early in the season only to get it back again near the end. William Gay has always been a good nickel corner for us, but possibly making him the top corner on the team makes me a bit uneasy. at this point im just going to take a leap of faith in cortez allen to show us more of the stuff he did in 2012 and hope we draft CB in the 1st 3 rounds, which seems likely anyways
