Maybe time to consider him a possibility as the nose tackle of the future? I know its way early, and i realize he did see a lot of 1 vs. 1 action, but he has had a stellar preseason (albeit at DE as well), made his presence known, and definitely looks better than Mclendon. I think he should get the start at NT the rest of the season regardless of Mclendon's health.

This could potentially be a fix for two positions that we're likely to lose players at after this season. Slide McClendon to DE where Diesel and Hood will likely be gone, make Woods the NT. If not the starting nose, he reminds me of Hoke a little in how he's working his ass off and not a lot of people know about him. Either way, he is an asset.

He looks like more of a nose tackle than anyone else on the team, that's for sure. Yeah, I'm a little nervous about just handing it to him permanently and saying "In Al We Trust," but what I saw tonight beats the shit out of our standard performance at that position for a few seasons. I still say we be glad we have him and take an elite NT if we can - though the only one I see in this year's draft is Louis Nix, and who knows if we'll be in position to get him.

edit: the Hoke comparison is right on; I feel exactly the same way.

Nice to see some players emerging. Woods is still developing and should see more playing time. He is a strong possibility for NT, but let's see what is available in the draft.

Woods was eating blocks so timons and wiliams cold clean up the play i am a little excited to see how he is playing.

For all the gym rat strength Ziggy apparently has, he doesn't get any push at the line. But I saw Woods taking up two blockers and immobilizing the line on several occasions. Timmons and Worilds took advantage. If I recall, on that play where Timmons made the laying-down tackle on Bernard, I think it was Woods who totally scorched the guard to open the hole for Timmons. Definitely nice to see that type of play from a practice squaddie.

If he can be our Hoke until we find our Hampton, that will go a long way to put the right pieces in place on the line in the wake of the possible departures of Beard and Ziggy.

....and the drop off with Hoke was even debateable.

We had a fantastic record when he started if I'm not mistaken.

Let's see what he can do the last couple of games. I like what he did tonight

Woods impressed , said in the game thread he commanded the double team and blew up some plays collapsing the pocket with penetration and being disruptive enough to make the QB move from his mark and into other traffic ( that is his job ) and he did it well ....

Play him there till he proves unworthy of it and look at Daniel McCullers in the draft around round 4 ( a beast of a man ) to be the long term future

Woods at the nose and McClendon able to slide all over the place is the future I see but we need to sign a veteran to push them both

I think with him starting the steelers only lost 2 games.

Wow.

Crazy correlation.

Not saying that Hoke was better but I treasured him as a player and we were always in the hunt when he started. :wink02:

I really hope we can resign Woods. I think he is an up and coming player that can help this defense in the future

Funny how all of these players are showing flashes in their contract year.

Ha ha.

Unfortunately, LeBeau hasn't let any of them ON THE FIELD to let them show flashes before their rookie contracts are almost up

Guess that is the Steelers way.

Looks like we may have to let people go due to the cap.

Not talking about Wallace type contracts, players who are simply playing well / above average.

What a shame.
