Soon-to-be first-round NFL draft pick Jadeveon Clowney has already drawn comparisons to some of the game’s great defensive ends.

Another problem child in the making.

he is already ( from my perspective ) a player with red flags in the motivational / effort department , this gets him no bonus points with me

that is not to say he won't be a great player because he has the tools to do so , I just dislike projects when it applies to inside someones head ....

keep in mind Tiny Richardson shut him down and he will be a late 1st round LT prospect

I'm afraid to ask how Tiny, Richardson is. :chuckle:

clowney is good no question but he can struggle vs big strong men whom he will find lots of at the next level

Dang, we need some Tiny Richardson! He looks ox strong and pretty good feet. Clowney looked like a rag doll.

these are the sort of players that many label as can't miss prospects that either boom or bust very quickly and it is very difficult to predict which way that sun sets , the kind that if I was a GM and they where on the board at my pick I would look to trade down with someone who fell overly in love with the prospect and reap the rewards of multiple extra selections and laugh all the way to the podium

think Big Max with a nasty streak half mile wide , his feet are a bit slow but he uses good placement to help offset the speed , he does reach a bit at times and it hurts him , but when he locks on ,.... to steal a line from an old Italian guy Fa'getaboutit

I liked what I read about him…...
"He's a competitive kid, and his mean streak shows up on the field." Ben would love this pick. :chuckle:

Tex and I discussed him a bit in the draft forum too , not that that section of the forum gets much traffic here

Really don't follow college ball that closely, but I have heard rumors that he's been dogging it this year to try and avoid injury. Any truth to that?

If so, it sounds like the "Mike Wallace" mindset to me. Pass on that.

well , I am not him so I can not tell you with any degree of certainty if that is in fact the case or not , however it sure looks like it ... that being said it could be motivational issues as well which is a completely different animal but just as alarming either way ...

but we agree on taking a pass on him if he where there ( but he wont be without some other issues rearing its head between now and draft time ) but do not count that out either ....

How did Clowney fare against the Volunteers' tackle? A close examination of their encounters:
Downs Clowney lined up on Richardson's side: 66 (39 run downs, 27 pass downs)
Downs Clowney "won": 22
Downs Richardson "won": 12
Draws: 4
Downs on which the Clowney-Richardson matchup was a non-factor: 28.

here is where you got your info ... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000265422/article/jadeveon-clowney-vs-antonio-richardson-matchup-unveiled

the problem with it is the guy is CLUELESS , I stopped reading it in the first paragraph when he said
including a complete whiff on a cut block

Because it was dead wrong , that play was not even Richardson it was the Vols TE Downs 1 on 1 vs Clowney 13 seconds into this clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWul62MaRT4

so THAT is why I do not give this article any credibility

as a side note this was not intended to be a stamp of approval for Richardson , it is just stating that Clowney can be man handled by big strong linemen and he will face plenty of those at the next level , Richardson is just one of them and will be drafted probably 20 spots later than Clowney towads the end of the first round and possibly as late as 35

Clowney has draft bust written all over him. Anyone who spends a top 5 pick on him might as well trade it in exchange of a bag of peanuts

Why would he even risk something like that with his big payday so near?

Clowney has been playing through a foot injury since the preseason, he is going to have surgery at the end of the season. The guy is a freak and when fully healthy is a force on the d-line.

Probably got it as "pay" for washing some rich booster's car. Knowing the NCAA, he'll get "nailed" for it in about ten years, but the school will be the ones to actually pay for it in sanctions.

he plays MUCH better here vs a higher rated LT Taylor Lewan ... Lewan is not nearly as big as Richardson ( kinda proving my original point he struggles against really big really strong tackles )

he beats Lewan like a drum on a few plays " words of Chuckie " ( down right embarrassing for Lewan )

Dwins, would you draft Richardson in the 1st?

Dwinsgames

Dwins, would you draft Richardson in the 1st?

not where we should currently be selecting at , but in a trade down to 20-26 area I would give him strong consideration dependent upon what was left on my board at not only my original selection point , but what was left after the move down ....

there are some other guys I like a lot too and it would depend if they where on the board ...

specifically LT prospects

I really like Cyrus Kouandjio ,Cam Erving , Ogbuehi and Scherff ( has been coming on as of late ) intrigue me as well ...

I have more film study to do and some big games ahead for some of these kids too

but Tiny is on my big board and he won't be coming off unless he does something stupid off field

could be as many as 7 LT prospects come off the board in the first 35-38 picks

he is drawing Erik Williams comparisons by some , but remember he is a bit raw just a 2 year starter at LT

sounds like some NFL GMs agree with me on Clowney

» NFC personnel director: "He's a man amongst boys. But he's one of those guys that's a Pro Bowl (http://www.nfl.com/probowl)er, or he could be a big-time bust depending on what's on the inside. That's what we'll all be digging into."

» AFC general manager: "I think there's flashes of brilliance and flashes of extreme inconsistency. I mean, it's a boom or bust thing. ... Does (Clowney) have all the talent in the world? Yeah. For people to get secure with him, it's going to come in the interviews, the one-on-ones with teams. They'll try to get him off the pre-scripted stuff from the agent. You have to be able to pass that smell test. Whoever drafts him is going to dig into every nook and cranny on him. And they're going to see what's in his soul."
