FLAGSTAFF -- The latest returns on the Cardinals’ quarterback competition show Derek Anderson closing the gap on Matt Leinart. Leinart struggled during the team’s Red-White scrimmage Saturday, while Anderson threaded the ball into tight coverage with ease and looked comfortable against the blitz. Meanwhile, Leinart’s accuracy was less than stellar and he rushed several throws under pressure. Leinart was particularly disappointing throwing the ball downfield, as he failed to connect with numerous open receivers.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that he won’t jump to any conclusions and has been pleased with the performance of both signal callers.

“You got to be careful about making too much of a judgment from this controlled practice,” Whisenhunt said. “You can’t make assessments too quickly based on what you see out here on one day.”

Leinart will be the starter at the start of the season, but if he falters Anderson will be in quickly.

That's really sad when a high 1st rounder can't beat a 6th rounder cut by Baltimore and Cleveland.
