View Full Version : Playoff Scenarios

Ravens: If we win the same amount of games here on out as them, and beat them, we overtake the Ravens.
Browns: They're only one game up on us, and we have two to play against them. It's in our hands.
Bengals: They are three games up on us with 1 game left to play against them. We need them to lose two games and we need to beat them, in order to overtake them. Their schedule looks weak: Jets, Dolphins, Ravens x2, Browns, Chargers, Colts, Steelers, Vikings. But with the loss of Leon Hall, it might happen.

As far as the Wildcard goes - Again, if we win the games, we'll have taken out almost every team that's ahead of us: Chargers, Raiders, Browns, Dolphins, Ravens, and Jets. The loss to Tenessee hurts. We need them to stumble.

So, in short. In order for the Steelers to make the playoffs this year, we need to keep pace with the other teams from this point on, and have the Titans blow a game, or the Bengals to blow 2 games and lose to us.

What? Too soon? :chuckle:

Hey, we've won 2 games! "I just hope we can win a game." What a classic quote.

I feel as if the division is still a real possibility. The Bengals have a solid team but from what I've seen they aren't excellent. I don't think Dalton is as good as he is given credit for being and could see him costing games down the line in scenarios where they need him to perform. The Ravens don't concern me. The Browns would have been a bigger threat had Brian Hoyer not been injured. The division is average this year in my eyes. I think the Steelers and the Bengals have a chance to be contenders if they play their cards right. I don't see the Ravens or Browns making the postseason. The Bengals are obviously a better bet for the North, but I like Ben over Dalton which could be the difference. There isn't a team remaining on the schedule we shouldn't beat maybe outside of the Bengals and Packers. Of course it won't play out that way, we'll lose to Oakland, Cleveland or Buffalo as usual. Maybe the Pats. But I think 9-7 is still very realistic, and I do think it's not out of the realm of possibility that's enough to win the North based on how I view Cincinnati, if we upset them in December. It'll be interesting to watch.

Yup...you just jinx'd it. I'm jolding you personally responsible for the lack of playoff football in Pitt this year.

We basically have to win all of our games, sweep division games and could possibly lose 2 non division games to give us a shot.

We are 2-2 in the AFC and 1-1 in the division. Oakland is a very important game.

Can we get to .500 before this talk even comes out. Talk about going from one extreme to the next. A few weeks ago we are talking about the season being over, lets get a high draft pick, now in week 8 you wanna talk playoffs. Everyone just needs to take a step back and see if we can win against Oakland.... New England.....and if then there is still Green Bay.

Too soon to talk about the playoffs alot of football left but, as we know anything can happen. I'm thinking maybe a wilcard spot.

Too soon to talk about the playoffs alot of football left but, as we know anything can happen. I'm thinking maybe a wilcard spot.

Unless we lose no more than 1, maybe 2 games maximum for the rest of the season, I don't think a wildcard is realistic. Otherwise you're no better than 9-7, and sure, once in a while you get lucky and make it in that way - but more likely you're on the wrong end of all 57 tiebreakers and you're counting on all three of the Raiders beating the Broncos, the Ravens losing to the Jaguars, and some other team winning while it's resting all of its starters, and you know how often THAT works out. I'd say we hav a better chance at winning the division. Of course, since the Bengals are already at 5 wins, that may not be possible unless we go at least 10-6 either.

So basically, we dug ourselves a giant goddamnhole and will have to play out of our minds to get out of it, which is something I'm not at all expecting based on a couple of tenuous victories over so-so teams.

do people realize only 1 team since the 1970 merger has made the playoffs after starting 0-4? Time to pull him out boys...

Hilarious! Only on SteelersUniverse could you have a thread discussing playoff scenarios right next to a thread painting our latest win as a loss. :toofunny:

I'm going to go to bat for Craic here just like I go to bat for anyone who gets crap for being "overly critical." This is what makes the message board fun and interesting.

Do I personally think we'll make the playoffs? I can't let myself go there. But just watch me get sucked in too if we stack a couple more wins in a row. :)

Someone get Tomlin his week 1, 2, 3 and 4 post game notes. Wonder if he'll have any arrogant quips like last weeks "any question about Le Veon Bell.....I didn't think so"

I guess there is one playoff scenario now, Steelers will be on the outside looking in. No way this teams wins 8 of 9 or 9 straight.

Updated....

Compromising pictures of Goofdell go public, forcing him to resign in humiliation. The new commissioner comes in and begins enforcing cheap shots and off-field indiscretions in a fair and evenhanded manner. Half the Bengals get arrested during their bye week, and the suspensions and legal issues cause them to lose their last four games.

There is a better chance of a kosher restaurant opening in Tehran in the next 5 years than the Steelers making the playoffs this season.

Here is our one and only playoff scenario, the steelers WILL miss the playoffs. Now lets tear down this thread before some overly optimistic fan deludes themselves into thinking that this team can possibly win 8 games in a row to make the playoffs. The coffin is nailed shut. All this team has to play for now is draft position and a sweep of the Ratbirds
