There were a lot of heroes for the Steelers throughout what turned out to be a 19-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field.

Start with the offensive tackles – Kelvin Beachum (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/kelvin-beachum/34c3bd3d-5e55-42a0-a7dd-09f77f5b70b5/) and Guy Whimper (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/guy-whimper/926f8a34-1b91-4836-9f4d-0a9afb29ff1a/) – neither of whom was a starter when the season began but who together held Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil to 1.5 sacks. There was Lawrence Timmons (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/lawrence-timmons/afc86dd7-633e-4e37-a4da-5f089a96b666/), who finished with 17 tackles. There was LaMarr Woodley (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/lamarr-woodley/ca7b64f1-170e-449e-a835-4851e785246d/), who had four tackles, a sack, two pressures, and a pass defensed. There was William Gay (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/william-gay/1a5771c1-6fa2-4076-94a2-44fef5695d61/), who had three tackles and two passes defensed, both of which occurred in the end zone. And there was Shaun Suisham (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/shaun-suisham/1375892d-6f3e-462a-b784-4c6cd6bce2b2/), who was 4-for-4 in field goals, including the one from 42 yards out that was the difference on the scoreboard.

But then there was Le’Veon Bell, who finished with 93 yards rushing on 19 carries against a Ravens defense that came into the game tied for seventh in the NFL against the run. Bell did it as a tailback, and he also did it taking snaps in the Wildcat, the first time the Steelers ever have employed that formation.

Bell was the driving force behind a Steelers running attack that totaled 141 yards and averaged 4.9 per attempt against the Ravens, and the team desperately needed the running attack to win last Sunday.

As a result, Bell is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Good for him. I noticed a couple very positive things and a negative about him during this game.

On the positive, he has patience. I really liked that. The problem with that however, is that if no hole opens, he gets buried like he's dancing, and won't have the momentum to drive a pile. IMO, that's exactly what we saw a lot of with most of our other RBs the last two or three years. But as long as we can some kind of hole open, having that patience will treat him very well. Second, he looks to be seeing the field much better this week. I liked a lot of his choices. I hope he keeps improving.

The negative is that he doesn't have the leg-drive to power through tackles. I'm not saying the kid falls down as soon as he's touched, but there were quite a few plays that I thought someone like Jones, Redman or Dwyer would have got a couple more yards because they're more of the leg drive push the pile kind of runner. That's fine though, this week, for the first time, I saw him have that burst through the hole when it opened up, and that was nice to see. If he keeps that kind of burst, he doesn't necessarily have to have the leg drive to power through the tackles. It's more of a "Run to Daylight" mentality that we haven't seen since Willie P., but I'm fine with that.

I'm sure he is looking for the spotlight now . Nowhere to go but up for this young man . I look for him to start craving to be on highlight films for years to come , start relishing his opportunity at success .
