Former center Matt Birk has lost 75 pounds, is ripped and doing some modeling

We've heard plenty of stories of NFL linemen losing a ton of weight in the months after they retire.

We don't think we've seen one who looks like he could start up a new career as a model less than a year after he retired.

Matt Birk, who weighed about 310 pounds when he played, is a little more than eight months removed from playing in his last game, which was last season's Super Bowl with the Ravens. And he's ripped.

He went from fat guy in the trenches to washboard abs, dropping 75 pounds and 10 inches off his waistline, according to the Ravens' official site. Now Birk is even modeling for ViSalus, which markets weight-loss nutritional products.

Gotta wonder if he even really had to do much more in the gym besides some toning. I'd guess about 95% of that "ripped" was already there, just lying under the fat.

Same probably goes for most linemen. You've got to be strong as fuck and not just heavy. Just being a fat person doesn't do you much good in pro football, with a few notable exceptions such as Casey Hampton and Refrigerator Perry.

Big Snack wasn't just fat. He was also one of the strongest guys in the NFL.

Yeah, he was a freak of nature. I do remember toward the end of his career, he said he didn't even lift weights anymore, since he had "grown ass man strength." He was also one of the fattest guys I've ever heard of. But my guess is he had a somewhat different ... physique than a lot of linemen, even though he was just as strong.

See? He probably sucks at blocking now. What a slacker.
