I have an office pick'em and one of the teams (he's a liberal, go figure) picked this way last year.
He would pick straight down Vegas odds, then assign confidence points based on spread. I knew what he was doing in week 8 b/c he hadn't won a game and then he won a few in a row which raised a red flag. I started looking for a pattern and that is when I figured it out. If you remember, last year there were a LOT of upsets at the beginning of the year.
Anyway, b/c he won last year, he named his team "This Weeks Winning Picks (def champ)". Since I'm the commissioner, I send out the payout sheet and I put in the email body "This Weeks Winning Picks: <the winner>", just to yank his chain a bit. If he wins I'll change the verbiage, I'm rubbing it in that he didn't win.
Anyway, he sent me an email about having trademarked the term "This Weeks Winning Picks" so I want to remind him that he is in "MY" league and being in the league, the league itself has rights over all the teams.
I'd like to use the same verbiage that the NFL would use. If the NFL doesn't have this kind of control over the teams then I'll change it around. This is all in fun.
Does anyone know of such a disclaimer?
