I wonder if he hurt it on the opening kickoff. His kick was rather weak which led to the safety and then his extra point attempt was also very weak. The kick wasn't very high and leaned quite a bit to the right. I honestly was afraid it wasn't going to make it.

I think he hurt it in pregame warmups.

One says it was earlier in the week, the other says in the pregame warmups. No one has a clue. :chuckle:

Pre game is the correct answer. By the way, he kicked a near perfect onside kick.

Yeah, they need to swallow their pride. I think it was a mistake to let him go over the two new guys they kept, money aside. As for ILB, I'm not sure, but there's not much experience with Wilson and Williams is a rookie. Damn shame Spence was hurt last year.

This is abnormal. I think it's more than bad luck, I think it is a lack of proper training

Reports are saying Hyphen (Stephens-Howling) also tore his ACL and will be out for the year as well !!

(3) players out for the year from injuries in the very first game of the season !!!!

Unbelievable !!!

I'd move Worilds to inside and start Jarvis outside. I can't believe these injuries. This is unreal.

I've harped on it before, but IMO it goes back to the strength & conditioning coaches. If I'm in the front office, I google what teams have been the least injured over the past 5 years and ask them just what the hell they're doing to keep their players healthy. And if it fits in the budget, hire them.

I don't think torn ACLs have much to do with improper conditioning. That's mostly just you taking an unlucky step, or people falling on you wrong.

I would imagine either Batch or Dwyer has already fielded a call from us. I find it hard to believe we'd go into next week with Bell, Redman and Jones. I guess we could elevate Alexander but I don't see that either.

I'll say it again. IMO, it makes all the sense in the world to bring back John Malecki since he played center for three years in college and he was regarded as being the only other offensive lineman on the roster with considerable experience at the center position. On top of that, it was reported that he was having a good camp. I questioned the decision to let him go in favor of Howie Long's kid because there was no viable option to replace Pouncey. Beachum has never played the position, yet Tomlin plans to have him replace Pouncey and then have Whimper back up the other OL spots. What about that decision makes any sense?

Dwyer has already been contacted.

According to Dale Lolley bringing Malecki back is not an option. He said that they should turn the center position over to Cody Wallace, whom they signed off of waivers last week from Tampa Bay. He said Wallace was a center in college, but he's only played in nine career games despite being in the league since 2008. He sounds like another Guy Whimper.

Well, that leaves me wondering what we're planning on doing for the other ILB spot. I'd say Jones, Worilds, Woodley and Timmons are our best four LBs, but can anyone besides Timmons move inside? Right now the depth chart has Williams listed as a starter. I guess maybe now is as good a time as any to see if the rookie can sink or swim.

I'd almost like to see what Worilds could do inside. It'd be a nice surprise to find that we have a solid LB corp for the better part of this decade. On the flip side however, I really don't want Worilds and a rookie lining up on that side all day together. Talk about recipe for disaster.

What makes anyone think Worlids could move inside? He's 30 lbs heavier than Foote or Timmons and it seems to me ILB is very instinctive upright position, I've never seen Worlids as a deep drop guy or a fill teh hole run stopper, BUT I'm far from a game plan or play analyzing junkie like some here. So tell me what he has shown that leads him inside besides the fact that he is a LBer on our roster and Jarvis is too.

Sylvester worked out for the Lions yesterday, he would likely be the best depth addition at ILB

worilds moving inside would be the most awkward transition ever. Your talking a guy moving from 4-3 defensive end through college to 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL to ILB. ehhh
