View Full Version : Week 1: Titans @ Steelers Predictions

Let's hear some predictions for Week 1.

I think our defense is determined to make a strong statement coming out of the gates. Everyone knows the defense was ranked #1 overall in yards allowed last season, but the lack of turnovers and pressure on the quarterback kept this unit from being great. Quarterback pressure is essential in this game with Jake Locker under center, he's a below average QB who can easily be forced into mistakes. I believe the pressure will be there, especially with the ability to blitz Timmons. I can see Locker throwing 2 picks and losing a fumble, allowing the Steelers to win the turnover battle.

Steelers win 24-10 and head into Cincy with a little momentum.

Locker has a couple decent drives, makes good use of his mobility, but for most of the day looks like a deer in the headlights. LaMarr Woodley takes advantage of David Stewart's injury and the pass rush as an entirety starts off the year with a vengeance. Troy has a pick, Ben throws for multiple touchdowns, Jones or Stephens-Howling break a long run...... Steelers 27 Titans 14

Steelers 23-17. It'll be the typical 'a lot closer than it should be' game.

I've got this game as a 'win'. I agree with everything said above. I just hope the Steeler's don't come out and play DOWN to the Titan's or this could be a real close game. Ben will probably have is typical thrown interception which will kill a drive. Hopefully the team will come out with a 'killer' instinct and the 'want to win' attitude and stomp the hell out of the Titan's the way they should. I'm going with the way it SHOULD be........Steeler's - 27-13

I see it like this steelers prevail 31-10 and, the defense will force 3 turnovers. Ben and, the offense will produce well. The nay sayers will look stupid as usual and, I think Wheaton will make a few big plays.

Nope. This is one of those no-win situations the Negative Nancies and Chicken Littles absolutely love and generally have a field day with. I'd imagine tomorrow is going to play out in one of three ways:

1. If the Steelers win it in a close one, then it'll be "the Steelers suck and will get destroyed by a 'real team' like Cincy," as if the NFL were full of "Alabama vs. Podunk Valley State" matchups like the NCAA is.

2. If the Steelers win big, then it will be marginalized as "big deal, the Titans suck anyway."

3. Finally, if the Steelers lay an egg and lose then it'll be some variation of "the season's over so they may just as well tank for a better draft pick, and/or fire/trade/tar-and-feather/draw-and-quarter/take-out-and-shoot everybody."

Like I said, no-win. We'll have to beat Cincy in Cincy next week before said naysayers will STFU. And even then, they'll always be hanging out on the periphery waiting in silence for the Steelers to drop a game and when it inevitably happens, they'll come right back out of the woodwork again. "See?!? See?!? I told all you Kool-Aid-drinking cheerleaders they suck!"

I just don't get "fans" of a team that seem to revel in the team's losses seemingly for the sole purpose of thumping their chest and saying "I told you so."

I'll pick Steelers 20 Titans 16. And the TD by the Titans is probably ST related.

Running back by committee rushes for over 100 yards . . . Beachum's the unsung hero as a TE helping the tackles hold off the pass rush . . . Ben throws a couple of deep completions, using the best pump fake in the NFL today . . . the line still experiences growing pains, evidenced by some holding and false start penalties . . . Mesko flashes the Zoltan sign after he pins the Titans deep . . . Ben connects with a lot of different targets; almost every eligible receiver gets a catch . . . Suisham makes 3 out of 3 field goal attempts . . . overall, the offense isn't as efficient as we would like, but is effective enough to put up 23 points.

Jake Locker executes a Titan offensive game plan that has been simplified to enhance his strengths and minimize his weaknesses; however, he depends on Chris Johnson being effective. Even though the Titans offensive line has been beefed up, CJ2K is held to 60 some yards rushing and 30 some receiving . . . Locker makes a couple of plays outside the pocket but also a couple of mistakes . . . Troy and someone surprising get picks . . . Troy is also effective moving toward the LOS and destroys a couple of plays . . . unsung hero on defense is Timmons, who will be all over the field . . . Woodley contributes with a sack . . . Jarvis Jones forces a fumble . . . Shamarko Thomas shows up on the stat sheet, but also commits a personal foul . . . overall the defense plays a very good game, holding the Titans to 13 points, but also scoring 7 themselves.

Steelers 30, Titans 13.

I'm going to the Rivers Casino brunch with the missus, son and daughter-in-law before the game. Free mimosas!! Thankfully I'll miss Eye-an (Don't call me EE-an) Eagle and Dan Fouts calling the action. Fouts is going to sell Jake Locker all game long.

Ben will get sacked on the first 3rd down passing situation.

Very well said, fansince76. That's exactly how it will be, we'll just have to roll into Cincy and put a beatdown on the Bungles. All I know is that it's now officially game day...

I hope I'm wrong, but I think we lose this game. Matter of fact, I think we'll be lucky to be over .500 at the middle of the season. However, from that point on, I think our guys start to click and we go on a tear, winning 7 of 8, maybe even sweeping the second half to make the playoffs.

I know that they might not run as much option as some think they will, but Locker is mobile, and accurate on the run. I think it is going to be a tough one to watch, like it always is when mobility meets Lebau. However, keeping everything in front of them, and forcing the Titans to run a f**k-ton of offensive plays is probably the best strategy. Just hard to watch.
Steelers win 20-14 (with a missed extra point in there)

I can see this being a sloppy win as well. Low scoring like 13-7 steelers win.

Offense will have to slowly develop as the year goes on.

Titans 24, Steelers 17

Tennesee pulls off the upset because of Steeler miscues and sloppiness. Offense looks meh, O-Line looks bad (again), the Defense holds firm for most of the game.

Steelers Special Teams are the norm as they don't give up a touchdown, but some long returns.

OL will be like turnstiles and any good play by STs will be nullified by a blocking in the back penalty. BB will be running for his life too.

I am going to win this ...

I predict there will be lots of big men running around on a green field , lots of throwing of a pigskin inflated with air and people hitting one another with shoulders , some kicking of that same pigskin too and at the very end one of those two teams will be named the victor .....

I also predict we will see lots and lots of complaining in the game day section of the forum regardless of who is winning the game ...

If I am wrong about anything I have written in this post feel free to name someone other than myself the the winner of the prediction thread , but if I am correct on all accounts than I will take this moment to thank you all for naming me the victor ...

Yeah, they were in a no win situation. Watch how some fans will find a way to actually be critical of the Steelers' performance as they are throwing their "I told you so" parties. Some spoiled fans will never be satisfied. ;)

Good call, but give some credit to the defender. He played that ball very well.
