Yeah, we all know the answer - sorry, nope. Player safety.

As some people pointed out in the comments, $765M, minus the one-third that the lawyers probably take, split 4,500 ways, comes out to about $90-100K per player, and that's not counting whatever portion goes to research and medical exams. So the net take-home after taxes is maybe half of a decent year's pay. At a regular job, not an NFL job. Food for thought.

Technically, you know, they should be free to get rid of all the crap rules they want, since the lawsuit was based on the league "covering up" the risk of brain injuries, and there's no way in hell to argue that every player now isn't well aware.

Just tell every player that if they want to play, they have to sign a waiver that clears the National Football League, the owners, the front offices, the coaching staffs, and the medical staffs of any liability for injuries sustained from playing in the league. The waiver should also state that the player waives his right, and his family's right to later sue the NFL and all listed above if injuries that occur from playing football for the league lead to heath problems later in life, including depression leading to suicide.

As part of the settlement the 4500 will be given full neuro workups and if they don't have problems they get no money. So the pool of people splitting the cash could get much smaller.

Also no luck on this stopping the lawsutis down the road.
