Time for the young guys to show up. #5 spot open. Moore, Woods, Moye, Dunn to make noise, especially on ST.

That really sucks. You hate to see this happen to anyone and that is more depth and experience now out the window. I hope one of the younger guys can do a decent job at the fifth string spot.

Well, that's the end of that crusade.

Sad.

I was actually looking forward to seeing if he could contribute some this year. The Burress that left town and the one that returned really did seem like two different people, at least from what I saw and read in the media.

Was actually rooting for him to make the team and contribute. Probably a career ending injury.

Was looking forward to seeing him as a TD target...but more like the idea of someone like Justin Brown, Reggie Dunn or Gilreath getting the reps...

Given that he will be thirty-six by the time the season starts I agree that this is most likely a career ending injury. It's too bad that his career will end this way.

Well, I thought he "could" have helped in the RZ, provided he was used in the RZ. But, that's that, I guess. What was he, #4 on the DC?

What's up with David Gilreath? Is he not even in the mix?

I forgot to add him in. He's in the mix and has just as good a shot as anyone else. He at least has some experience with the team so that's a plus.

Mike Tomlin Statment on Plaxico Burress Injury

During Thursday’s practice, Plaxico suffered what appears to be a significant shoulder injury. He is scheduled for surgery on Monday, and we will re-evaluate the injury at that time. I will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available

I was a fan of having Plaxico back, but so it goes. Here's hoping this means big things for Justin Brown.

This question may be stupid as hell, by the way, but is a rotator cuff injury necessarily as bad for a WR as for other positions? I mean obviously it's going to mess him up for a while, but he doesn't play a position like QB or a baseball pitcher, where the whole thing depends on your arm being absolutely perfect. I wonder if after you have surgery, in a couple months you can move well enough to catch a ball and sort of struggle along with it. I haven't ever had that kind of injury so I don't know.

I suppose it wouldn't be very good for blocking and things like that, though. And in any case, I doubt we'd even want to deal with all that mess over a guy who's a maybe for the #4 WR position. So maybe it is a season-ender after all. Sucks, though.

Your rotator cuff basically keeps your shoulder in it's socket and controls all function in your shoulder. If you tear it, you basically have no range of motion in your entire arm.

I sprained mine once in basketball and it was hell. I couldn't shoot at all. Can't imagine tearing it.

It would make it very difficult to grab any catch above the shoulder. Torn rotator cuff allows the shoulder to pop out of place as you lift the arm. That's why the recover time is so long. Any lifting of the arm puts strain on the rotator cuff making recover take longer. That takes away Plaxico's biggest assest, his height. He would not have the ability to catch the high jump balls thus making him of no value. As said by others, career ender for Plax.

Ahh, OK. Well, glad I've never experienced anything like that. It sounds about the worst injury you can have this side of a torn ACL.

It's up there. Torn Achilles would be as well.

Best case scenerio had him behind Brown,Sanders,Cotchery, and Wheaton...soooo not a huge loss.

It's not a huge loss, but still had some potential. Ben wanted him for a reason and I think he would have contributed some. But his contribution are more than likely replaceable by a younger guy. It sucks for Plex but we can make up for it.

Wasn't a fan of Plax the first time around but it really appeared like he had turned his life around and was truly grateful to be back with the Steelers. I was hoping for mini comeback this year given his relationship with Ben.........Ben was going to be looking for him in the redzone, I'm sure.

Gilreath 2 mistakes on ST tonight thus far ... fielded a punt inside the 5 and then fumbled a punt ... he wont make this team that way
