Tossing around undrafted rookies is one thing, but if Fangupo can translate his ferocity toward established NFL veterans, he may just surpass last year's fourth-round draft pick Ta'amu.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/pittsburgh-steelers) are depending on Steve McLendon (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71873/steve-mclendon) to fill the massive hole left by the departed Casey Hampton (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1599/casey-hampton), but who will back McLendon up is still a question left unanswered. Originally, it was thought to be last year's fourth-round pick Alameda Ta'amu (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/155023/alameda-ta-amu), but he is currently on the PUP list with a hamstring pull. As he recovers, enter the name Hebron Fangupo (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/155507/hebron-fangupo) into the ring..........

I have been saying this all along , Fangupo has skills and he also has a Fan in Chris Hoke who can help him dramatically in what the Steelers are wanting from a NT ( is someone reading my posts for their material ?? ) lol

My Brother ( who lives in Utah ) tapes all the BYU games and sends me several games a year to watch , I have seen quite a bit of him and pimped him on my old board ...

my view of his positives...

he will not be over powered , strong as a horse upper and lower body , can be disruptive , non stop motor , an eye for the football with very good awareness , holds up well at the point of attack and is a good run defender ..... a man with a value system who will do what it takes to be a good team mate and represent the organization with class and not be in the paper

where he lacks ...

limited mobility so will not make many plays outside the tackle box but how many NT's do ? , his technique needs some work and he relies on brute strength to overcome his shortcomings as a technician ....

Good stuff man. I expect a lot of guys from BYU to be high class. Glad he's following that path.

with so few nail biters as far as who makes the 53 man roster or not, he's got my vote for making it

when I was a kid my dad had a Volkswagen Van and we got it up to 92 MPH ONCE ( coming down RT 17 out of flagstaff Arizona on the mother of all hills ) that Van never seen 90 MPH in its life , before or after that day ... just sayin

and I did say he won't make many plays OUTSIDE the tackle box with outside being the key word ....

I agree with everything you said. I have to admit, his name was the first thing that caught my eye, and I started watching him when ever I could. He was one of my favorite players when he came out and actually had him on my mock draft. I thought he needed a year or two to develop, I hope I was right and he is ready. He looked to be a player that does what the Steelers ask the NT to do, and that is close the middle, and push the pocket back toward the QB. I hope he can make the cut, I love kids like this.

good then I am not alone in seeing his potential ...

I love the kid as a prospect and potential / eventual starter at NT however this does not mean I see him as a lock to make the roster but I am hopeful

In addition to his being mobile enough for a nose tackle he has good situational awareness and he sheds blocks well. He's also has an aggressive, attacking style of play. I'm not sure what it is about him as to why he has yet to find a permanent home. Could it be the level of competition he played against?

as a side note keep in mind Fangupo is 28 so unless he is ready to play at " the standard" grooming time is not readily available

I am not insulted by them , they serve a purpose ...

however to confuse their purpose with the Normal play is a catastrophic mistake . it shows capability in rare instances hence why it is a highlight and not just another play ...

I think that point is what many people get lost in when watching them

I think that more people fail to realize that than those that do. I prefer to go watch full games. Plenty of cutups out there,. Let's you watch two games in 20 minutes.
