Jahvid Best released , last football played was about 19 months ago who would have thought a concussion could keep someone out that long ..could be an end to his short career loads of talent gone in a flash

Best was not very good at durability.

Sidney Crosby missed 11 months with a concussion and another NHL player missed 18 months. So it's not all that uncommon.

It's a shame Best's career has gone like this.

It's a shame Best's career has gone like this.

As XT mentioned, other athletes have also suffered concussions and then were out for months. Best could still come back and play again.

I wouldn't say it's gone in a flash, and I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in him playing again. He's had a pretty tough injury history going back to his college days, including at least two super-scary full-blackout head injuries. I don't know how much you heard about that, it being in the Pac-12, but it was a pretty big deal here. After the second one, there was a lot of speculation about whether should keep playing at all or would have neurological problems and be a a high risk. But he kept playing, and this unfortunately does not surprise me at all.

I think his final play of his college career is what caused this latest concussion to be so severe. I remember reading something that some doctors recommended that he quit playing football because his next concussion, no matter how "minor," could be magnified ten times worse because of the big one in that game.

It's sad that his career might be over, because he is very talented. But the writing was on the wall with this, when the Lions signed Reggie Bush you knew Best was going to be cut.

Better to leave the game now than to take another hit and have some serious immediate damage, I suppose. So there's a silver lining (although I'm sure Best is feeling affects right now)
