With the draft and trade deadline approaching, any credible rumor (IOW, not from HockeyBuzz or HockeyyInsiderr) or confirmed transaction may be posted in this thread. Let's start with this:

That does not surprise me at all, and it's why Philly fans are the way they are. There's no way in hell I'd want to play there and have to deal with those idiots every day.

Anyway, Vancouver has hired John Tortorella as head coach. Shit's about to get real in Van City.

Blues sign D Kevin Shattenkirk to 4-year extension: https://twitter.com/jprutherford/status/349978101763158017

Blue Jackets sign LW Artem Anisimov to 3-year extension: https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/349923506588352512 (I bet the Rangers really missed him last season when they couldn't score goals to save their lives. Plus, we'd better pay attention to any Blue Jackets news since they will be division rivals starting next season)

The Lightning buy out Vinny Lecavalier: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=675442&navid=nhl:topheads

Vinny has been a significant reason for many of our past successes, including the 2004 Stanley Cup, and his contributions to the community are immeasurable,” said Yzerman upon announcing the buyout. “The Lightning organization is indebted to Vinny; we thank him for all he has done here and we wish him well as he moves forward.

“After much internal deliberation, we believe this will prove to be a pivotal move for us as we strive to achieve our long term goal of competing at the highest level, year-in, year-out. The economics and structure of the CBA are necessitating this decision and we at the Lightning are excited at the newly created opportunities this presents to us.”

Canucks may buy out Roberto Luongo... https://twitter.com/JoshRimerHockey/status/350775385622970368

...and are shopping back-up goalie Cory Schneider, per Darren Dreger. Rumor is that the Oilers are involved in the talks.

So who is going to play in goal next season? A cardboard cut-out of Kirk McLean?

They'd have to trade for him, but there's no chance they do it now since Luongo will be staying because Schneider was shipped to the Devils for the 9th overall pick. Gotta love that deal for the Devils, and how Mike Gillis still has a job is beyond me. What an idiot he is.

Speaking of the Draft, Nathan MacKinnon was drafted 1st overall by Florida, and Seth Jones dropped the 4th and was picked by Nashville. Popeye is a proud papa right now. Sucks though that he didn't become the first black player drafted 1st overall.

DiPietro's contract is what started all of the super-long contracts, so it's not surprising that his is also among the first ones to be bought out.

And I agree, if the Pens can get Komisarek on the cheap, they should do it. Not a bad option on the 2nd or 3rd pairing.

Big trade between the Stars and Bruins today:

Dallas Stars (http://www.hockeyfights.com/teams/10) General Manager Jim Nill (http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/4392) announced today that the club has acquired centers Tyler Seguin (http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/14821) and Rich Peverley (http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/5294) and defenseman Ryan Button (http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/8852) from the Boston Bruins (http://www.hockeyfights.com/teams/3) in exchange for left wing Loui Eriksson, right wings Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser (http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/7632) and defenseman Joe Morrow (http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/12954).

Seguin, 21, finished tied for third on Boston with 32 points (16G-16A=32P) while appearing in all of the team’s 48 games. He finished tied for seventh in the League with a +23 plus/minus rating and his 16 goals were second most on Boston.

Amongst those selected in his 2010 NHL Draft class, he leads all players in regular season games played (203) and is third in goals, assists and points (56G-65A=121P). Over the last two seasons, his +57 plus/minus rating is second in the League behind only Boston’s Patrice Bergeron (http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/1654).

A three-year veteran, Seguin has already appeared in 42 career postseason games earning 18 points (6G-12A=18P). Of that experience, 12 of the games have come in the Stanley Cup Final where he won in 2011 and lost in 2013. During the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, Seguin posted an assist in four out of the six games (0G-4A=4P).

Also, Danny Briere has signed a 2-year deal with Montreal, the team he snubbed when he signed with Philly 5 years ago. Maybe now they will stop booing him every time he touches the puck. https://twitter.com/JessRusnak/status/352869487588020224

Andrew Ference signs with Oilers. 4 years, $13 million per TSN. Massive overpayment.

Oilers also sign Jason Labarbera and Boyd Gordon to 1-year deals, per the Oilers' official Twitter.

What...the...fuck???

I guess he really wanted to go back home, but damn, he just walked away from $77 million. I don't care who you are or where you play, that's a lot of money to leave on the table. Now I'm worried about what Malkin might do since the Pens will be paying him $76 million starting next season (2014-15). The Caps are probably wondering the same thing about Ovechkin, who still has 9 years and nearly $90 million left on his contract.

Here is an article from the Trib that clarifies Geno's intentions:

Malkin has his priorities in place

Evgeni Malkin enjoys spending his summers in Moscow. He would have enjoyed this one a lot less had he returned to his offseason home before agreeing to a long-term contract with the Penguins.

There is a reason his new contract with the Penguins came together over a span of five days in early June.

General manager Ray Shero wanted a deal done so that he could move onto negotiations with players such as Pascal Dupuis and Kris Letang. Also, Malkin (like Shero) anticipated the inevitable arm twisting by Russian friends – a group that includes mostly hockey players and entertainers but also influential private businessmen and public officials – for Malkin to stay home and sign a lucrative, tax-free deal with the Kontinental Hockey League.

When in Russia, intimidation is a powerful motivator. In July 2006, Malkin was pressured into signing a new contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk after club officials refused to leave his parents' house. Ultimately, agent J.P. Barry legally broke that deal and helped his client get to Pittsburgh, but the experience permanently scarred Malkin's psyche.

Report: Jaromir Jagr agrees to one-year contract with Devils

It's been in the works a while and now it is reportedly done: Jaromir Jagr will be a New Jersey Devil.

Speculation surrounding Jagr and the Devils really picked up in the last couple of days with Jagr reportedly visiting New Jersey and his agent declining to comment. Then on Monday, Pierre LeBrun tweeted that it's a done deal, Jagr is going to the Devils on a one-year deal. LeBrun reports the deal should be made official by the team on Tuesday.

As of yet there is no word on the price of the contract but it will likely fall around the $4 million mark for the veteran. Jagr showed last season that he still has plenty of ability to play in the NHL. Before a postseason with the Bruins where he was snakebitten, Jagr had a very good regular season with 16 goals and 19 assists in 45 games between Dallas and Boston.

John Paddock and Ian Laperriere are his assistants. I don't know why he wasn't fired at the end of last season - the team didn't make the playoffs and were pretty much listless the entire season. I couldn't even hate those orange bastards properly. Hiring Berube is a good first step in my regaining that hatred, since I couldn't stand him when he played.

Apparently, not all was well in Sabre-land...

The Buffalo Sabres today announced Pat LaFontaine (http://sabres.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8448626) has resigned his position with the Buffalo Sabres to resume his previous role with the National Hockey League.

“I would like to thank Pat for all he has done for the organization,” said Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula. “Pat joined us at a very difficult time and helped transition the organization down a new path. Tim Murray will continue as General Manager and Craig Patrick will continue as a Senior Hockey Advisor. As has been the case since I bought the team, we’ll continue to do whatever is needed to rebuild the organization and keep it on path towards our ultimate goal of winning the Stanley Cup.”

“Terry Pegula hired me in November and my primary objective was to lead the Sabres organization through a time of transition,” said Pat LaFontaine (http://sabres.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8448626). “I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish in a short period of time and want to thank Terry and Kim Pegula for the opportunity and their support during my time with the Sabres. I also want to convey my best wishes to all of the players in the Sabres organization and to wish them the best of success in the future. Most importantly, I want to convey my heartfelt appreciation to the great fans of the Sabres for the way I have been treated here as a player and as an executive.”

http://sabres.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=707174&navid=DL|BUF|home

And apparently strong disagreement over what to do with Miller was the reason:
