UPDATE: Mike Adams held at gunpoint and stabbed

Pittsburgh Steelers second-year offensive tackle Mike Adams (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/mike-adams/baa7fbda-a15c-4908-99ea-22bf07f00565/) was injured and is hospitalized after being stabbed in an apparent robbery attempt early Saturday morning in Pittsburgh’s South Side.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning,” Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said. “We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery."

Adams was drafted in the second round (56th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft and was the winner of the Joe Greene Great Performance Award, given to the outstanding Steelers rookie. He started six of the 10 games in which he played in 2012.

Steelers' Mike Adams stabbed in stomach, forearm in failed South Side carjacking

Steelers tackle Mike Adams was stabbed in once in the stomach and once in the left forearm as he tried to stop three men from stealing his truck from the South Side intersection of East Carson and 17th streets early today, Pittsburgh police said.

The second-year tackle, who was the team's rookie of the year in 2012, was recovering but remained hospitalized, the team said.
"He'll be OK," agent Eric Metz of Phoenix said. "He told me he was lucky. He'll be ready for training camp."

Pittsburgh police said a witness flagged down an officer about 3 a.m. Officers found Mr. Adams at Cambod-Ican Kitchen on the northeast corner of 17th not long afterward.

Mr. Adams told the officers he was outside his truck and didn't have his keys when three men approached.

One was armed with a handgun and another with a knife, police said.

The man with the gun pointed it in Mr. Adams' face after Mr. Adams tried to prevent them from stealing his truck and as they argued............

As they often say, nothing good happens after midnight. And the fact that this happened in that section of the South Side does not surprise me in the least. It's a hopping place with lots of bars and entertainment, but it also attracts lots of unsavory people there, to the point that they have roving police patrols every night and double on weekends. You won't see me hanging out there, which is a shame because Fat Heads Lounge is a block away from where the incident occurred.

Anyway, I'm glad Mike is OK and will make a full recovery. That's the most important thing right now.

Many smoke on a regular basis to deal with stresses of being a student athlete (and yes, there are stresses as you deal with class, practice, weight lifting sessions, conditioning sessions, missing classes and dealing with making plans for missed classes with teachers, and having little personal time to just relax).

Has he failed a drug test since being drafted by the Steelers? No. Has he been in any trouble since being drafted? No.

From the sounds of it, they were trying to carjack him. Men with guns and knives don't care about your size or what you do for a living. They care about getting what they want. Mike Adams would have probably been better off giving them his car and whatever else they wanted...then called the cops to report it. Cancel your credit and debit cards.

Luckily, there were no major injuries from the stab wound. He's going to be just fine health wise, and that's what is important. He is also going to be recovered by TC, if not before, and that is also good news from a fan perspective.

Hazelwood man charged in South Side stabbing of Steeler

A Hazelwood man was arrested Monday afternoon and charged in the stabbing of Steelers' offensive lineman Mike Adams during an attempted carjacking over the weekend.

Michael C. Paranay, 25, is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and related crimes for the incident that occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of East Carson and South 17th streets in the South Side, said city police Lt. Kevin Kraus, acting commander of Pittsburgh's Major Crimes squad.

Adams, 23, told police he was standing near his parked truck when he was confronted by three men who attempted to carjack him, Kraus said. Adams told police that one of the men had a handgun and another a knife.

During the confrontation, Adams said, one man pointed the gun at his face and another stabbed him in the abdomen and left arm. He underwent surgery at UPMC Mercy, Uptown.

Kraus said detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Paranay Saturday afternoon.

He said the investigation is continuing.

Pittsburgh police arrested the second of three suspects in the South Side stabbing of Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams after he led officers on a foot chase through Hazelwood before surrendering.
Detectives are still seeking a third man.
Dquay Means, 26, of Hazelwood, was arraigned this morning on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, conspiracy and other crimes in connection with the stabbing Sunday on East Carson Street before dawn.
His arrest came hours after police arrested another man, Michael Paranay, 25, of Hazelwood, on similar charges in connection with the stabbing.

Pittsburgh police wrote in a criminal complaint that Mr. Adams left Cambod-Ican Kitchen at 17th and East Carson streets shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday when three men approached him. He said Mr. Paranay told him his black Ford F-150 Raptor was a nice truck and Mr. Means said "Gimme your car."
Mr. Adams told Mr. Means, "You aren't gonna shoot me on the street in front of people."
Mr. Means responded, "I want your car or I'll shoot you in the face and kill you in front of everyone," according to the complaint.
Mr. Adams told police Mr. Paranay then punched him in the face and another man -- who has not yet been arrested -- stabbed him in the abdomen and slashed his right forearm.
Mr. Adams was taken to UPMC Mercy, where he underwent two surgeries to repair the stab wound, which was so deep it cut part of his colon.
Homicide detectives tied Mr. Paranay to the crime after they analyzed a phone that was dropped at the crime scene.
It was not immediately clear how they arrived at Mr. Means as a suspect, but Mr. Adams identified both him and Mr. Paranay in photos, according to the complaint.
