I am really excited for Coach Dad's special day on Saturday. They reported on Pitt ESPN 1250 that Joey Porter will be in attendance wonder if anyone other former players will be in attendance.

You know the guys are going to do something very special for him. Anyone have any guesses what they may have planned? I think they may just do the jersey thing like they did at SBXL.

Canton OH is going to be a very Steeler friendly place come August 7th it will be a sea of B&G.

Congratulations Coach :clap2::clap2::clap2:

i think we should sticky this thread for the flood of lebeau talk and articles about him for the next 2 weeks.

heres the 1st one (i did something special and wrote one myself)-

http://www.steeluniverse.net/forums/Dick-LeBeau-Paying-it-Forward.php

The expression of paying it forward refers to the act of doing something good for others instead of paying back a favor or debt, in hopes that they will do the same. Eventually, if everyone subscribes to the philosophy, the world will become a better place.

Nobody epitomizes this better than the Pittsburgh Steelers Defensive Coordinator, Dick LeBeau.

In less than 3 weeks, he will take that hallowed walk onto the stage of the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in his home state of Ohio. Indeed it is long overdue. In recent years many have lobbied for him to be enshrined as a player/coach, hoping that his accolades as a coach would boost the fact that he had been overlooked as a player for so many years, and garner him extra consideration.

Dick LeBeau will finally be inducted, and some think of it as a testimony to his playing career that he is enshrined as a player alone who doesn’t need to lean on the crutch of his coaching career. This is almost bitter-sweet because if there is anyone who deserves to be inducted twice, it is "Coach Dad. "-see link for rest

(oh, and for those who dont know, saturday practice has been canceled and the ENTIRE steelers team is being bussed to canton, to be in attendance).

other than art and dan, i think this is the 1st time an active steelers will be enshrined.

That is pretty awesome. And that was a damn good editorial. I almost believed it was from Tony, until I noticed the use of capitalization. :chuckle:

Just effing with you anthony, excellent read.

The fact that his players are so outspoken towards him says more to me than anything he could say himself. He'd probably agree.

Hats off to you coach Dad.

What?

Where's the :hatsoff: emoticon?

Don't you folks know how much we love our smilies.

When he retired as a player for the Lions he was #3 in history in interceptions. It's a shame that he fell through the cracks, he should have been in a looooooooooooong time ago.

Funny thing is, he's going in as a player and he played with the Lions. There will be a bigger Steelers contingency there than Lions, and there technically isn't anyone going in as a Steeler.

Just listened to the interview. Great stuff, he's still as humble as ever. If it were me getting elected into the Hall, I would've rented a blimp over Canton.

Best part of the interview: Mike and Mike were talking about how big the loss of Troy was, and LeBeau made sure to talk about how big the loss of Aaron Smith was as well.

Had Dick LeBeau's life taken a slightly different path, he says he probably would've been a golf instructor.

Instead LeBeau is entering the Hall of Fame as a three-time Pro Bowl cornerback and one of the greatest defensive minds in football history.

LeBeau spent his college days playing football for Ohio State in the fall and enjoying golf in the offseason. Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus had a heavy influence on LeBeau's career choice.

"I played with Jack, then I decided I really should concentrate on football," LeBeau said with a chuckle. "I would not have been a golf player like Jack Nicklaus or Tom Weiskopf. But I can make a par or two, and I love to teach. So instead of a football coach, I probably would have been a golf coach."

LATROBE — It took 33 long years, but Dick LeBeau has finally arrived at the doorstep of football immortality. And in his mind, he wouldn’t be there if not for the men he’s coached as defensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
For years, the Pro Football Hall of Fame voting panel ignored his outstanding accomplishments as a Detroit Lions cornerback.
But in recent years, a cast of Steeler defenders past and present spoke up, challenging and persuading the voters to finally get it right.
The Hall finally got it right.
On Saturday night, LeBeau will be among the seven inductees into the Hall of Fame Class of 2010.
“I owe everything to my players,” LeBeau said at training camp at St. Vincent College. “If they hadn’t spoken up, I probably wouldn’t have gotten the nomination.
“It’s my guys on defense who’ve kept my name out there, whether by wearing my jersey or just by playing like the devil.”

I can't wait I'm excited I have my box of tissues cause I know I'm gonna need 'em. I'm not sure how Coach is going to get through his speech. He is scheduled to be the first inductee at the ceremony Saturday night.

Hall of Fame induction is '10,000 dreams come true' for LeBeau
By Scott Brown, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Friday, August 6, 2010

What they are saying

Steelers players and coaches weigh in on defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau and his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame:

• "Dick LeBeau is the best to coach this game, in my estimation. He'll probably be the best guy I will ever work for. I would walk through fire for Dick LeBeau. I'll have tears in my eyes when he walks across that stage to give that speech."

— Associate head coach/defensive line coach John Mitchell

• "To me, it's long overdue. He hasn't coached me personally, but we have a great relationship. We have a lot of talks and a lot of fun, and he's just a great guy. If I ever played defense, he'd be the guy I want coaching me because I see what he does for the defensive players."

— Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger

• "He's got that gift that makes the person he's talking to feel like they're the most important person. That's a gift. He's got that common touch that makes you believe you're the most important person that there is."

Congrads to an excellent coach and former player. It's his name that will always be legendary in football for what he has brought to the game. The history can't be written without his name. Thank you for all the joy you've given us over the years and hopefully you still will for a more.
