At the end of last season, Steelers (http://triblive.com/sports/steelers/) running back Isaac Redman looked in the mirror and wasn't happy.

“I didn't like the weight I was,” Redman said Wednesday at the end of the Steelers' second of 10 organized team activities.

So Redman did something about it.

He spent the offseason with speed and agility specialist Ron Jones in Tampa, Fla., working on transforming his body.
“The goal was to get more explosive and get quicker, faster and to drop weight,” Redman said.
Redman dropped 10 pounds — he was listed at 230 last year — and wants to get down another five. Redman plans to return to Tampa following minicamp in mid-June to resume his workouts with Jones.............

Not so sure this is a good thing? Redman has statistically been one of the top backs in the league in short yardage situations the past two years. With the loss of weight will he lose some of that power that made him difficult to bring down short of the sticks? A solid 235 pound back with good body lean isn't an easy thing to stop.

I hope it works, but this has backfire potnetial written all over it.

If Redman wanted to take his game in this direction he should have done so before last season when he had every opportunity to become a featured back. He played well, but didn't show he's anything close to a 16 game starter. I think the team views him as a supplementary back now and him potentially losing his short yardage edge with weight loss doesn't sound like the right move to me. Hopefully I'm wrong.

redman said before he played on a high ankle during the season so ill take his word for it. Puzzling to think he wants to lose weight when he has done such a great job in short yardage situations. Wonder if he's afraid leveon bell will take the goal line carries, even though he "pushes the pile" like a 200lb. back and not a 244lb one. Redman needs to keep being efficient in those situations or leveon bell needs to learn quickly how to utilize his size

Willie Parker did the opposite, he put on weight in an effort to absorb some of the pounding that he was taking. That definitely backfired on him. I'm thinking the same thing with Redman. Don't change who you are, just get better at what you do.

As a whole Redman is a below average back at best. Anything to get him to "average" is good by me...lol.

Redman was an undrafred free agent. Any expectation from him should be low.

What I remember most about Redman last year was the amount of yardage he got when he caught the ball. Maybe defenses weren't even paying attention to him, but if he is quicker, that will really open up the offense.

Peyton Manning and Wes welker say there's no reason to slim down Isaac. :chuckle:

I agree Count...

I also think how weight is gained and lost is important too.

If it is done smart.....such as good diet and hard workouts then more often than not it is a good thing imo.
