Like several other young players on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster, 2013 is a make-or-break year for third-year cornerback Curtis Brown, who is trying to put a disappointing 2012 season behind him and show the organization that they didn't waste a third-round draft pick on him back in 2011. David Todd of 970 ESPN Radio caught up with Brown on Wednesday after the Steelers first OTA practice of the 2013 season and asked him what he did during the off-season to prepare himself for 2013 and where his focus is right now.

"Working harder than I ever worked before," said Brown. "Worked out in Houston with Adrian Peterson and a trainer. Adrian Peterson really pushed me to get my body in better shape. Leaving last year at like 180, came in off-season at 202, back at 195 right now.

"So my whole focus was actually paying attention to the craft and actually dedicating myself to this game before it's over. Because you know, people come in the league quick and I got an opportunity to be on this football team, and possibly have a chance to play and make a difference. That's my focus right now." ..........

Nah. Why would he be training with Romeo Crennel?

Brown better show something this year or he'll be looking for a different team.

When I read Purple Jesus, the first thing I thought was that might be the new nickname of Jamarcus Rusell's favorite drink. Didn't occur to me that would be a good thing to train on. :wink02:

Hopefully Curtis Brown plays better than J.B. "Just been burned" Brown.

Ike Taylor:6'2'', 195lb
Cortez Allen: 6'1'', 196lb
Curtis Brown: 6', 195lb

Even Terry Hawthorne is 6', 195lb. Boy, were starting to get some pretty big corners arent we? Lake must like a little meat on his DB's, i like where this is going. i know size is just size, but having a lot of bigger corners who can play press seems to be the way to slow down a lot of these spread offenses like the patriots and packers. hope it serves us well

Good point. Look what the Seahawks have done with their DB's. All of them are big. I don't think it is a coincidence that you are seeing more and more teams go this route. What the heck else are you supposed to do against the AJ Green's of the world?

Hope the Steelers CB's can even have half the success of the Seahawks.

Beachum and his wife were at Blount's ranch over the weekend. (twitter). Hope Beachum learned how to bring that intensity to the OLine.

He has a few things working against him. He's still inexperienced, he's not fast or quick and he is slow to react. Unless something changes he might not be back after pre-season.

That is very cool. Mel Blount lives about 15 minutes away.

Mel Blount and his wife (and family) are very good and decent people....and it sounds as though Beachum is a quality individual as well.

I hope he sticks.

I'd agree with you except that Brown was our best special teams player last year. So just on that he could still conceivably make the roster. But as a db I'm just not seeing it. I don't think he has what it takes to play corner at the NFL level.

Perhaps he couldn't get out of the way fast enough?

Well if nothing else, Brown is turning into quite the special teams ace. Great return on a 3rd round pick!

I agree totally. I was trying to inject a bit of sarcasm. Clearly it didn't work.

Also, no one should draft guys from Texas anymore. Ever. The list of busts out of that program is getting pretty long and distinguished. A certain WR who shall remain nameless. Then there was a Tackle prospect who had lead feet -- Hills or whatever. If I remember in 2011, Aaron Williams, a teammate of Brown's, was more highly touted and went high in the draft to the Bills - where he has stunk for several NFL seasons. To be fair he was potentially out of position at corner and the latest is that Buffalo is moving him to safety.

Unless Brown really steps up this year, he is easily a busted pick. Joining a growing list of crappy Longhorns in the NFL.
