KFFL - Vikings | Brett Favre yet to make decision?
Tue, 03 Aug 2010 09:31:11 -0400

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said during his press conference Tuesday, Aug. 3, that he has spoken with QB Brett Favre in the last 24 hours, and Favre didn't say he was retiring. Childress also said he has yet to hear from Favre on a decision to retire.

Family insider: Brett Favre still mulling retirement decision

Recommend Brett Favre has not yet made a decision on whether to return to the Minnesota Vikings for the 2010 NFL season, an unnamed person close to Favre's family told the Biloxi Sun Herald.

Earlier Tuesday, the AP, Fox Sports and Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Favre had informed the Vikings that he had opted against playing.

"Brett has not made a commitment to play or a decision to return at this point," the Favre insider told the Sun-Herald.

Favre's brother, Scott Favre, also spoke to the Sun-Herald. "I have heard no truth to that (retirement)," Scott Favre said. "I know he can still play and I want him to keep playing."

Vikings coach Brad Childress denied after Tuesday morning's practice that Favre had told him he would be retiring. He called the situation "very fluid."

VIDEO: Childress' midday Tuesday news conference

Fox Sports reported that Vikings officials were trying to change Favre's mind and would even consider sweetening the $13 million salary he's set to earn.

Favre, 40, had surgery on his left ankle in May and has consistently said this year that he doesn't know if his body can withstand a 20th NFL season.

Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe told ESPN Radio on Tuesday that he believed Favre's retirement talk was not a ploy.

"What I'm hearing is that it is true, that he did decide to retire," Shiancoe said. "But until I hear it from his mouth, I'm going to leave it at that."

Shiancoe added that a potential retirement from Favre would be "a blow to the team" for the Vikings, who lost to the Saints in the NFC title game last year.

I'm probably in the minority, but I still miss hearing Madden when watching primetime games.

It's like turning on the radio during Christmas and not being able to hear Bing Crosby.

A lot of things are screwey in this world, but for me personally, familiarity brings about comfort.

I kinda wish he gets bored in retirement, and decides to jump on that bus again.

A friend who is a cowgirl's fan sent me this...comments from the Dallas camp about Butt Fart's "retirement"

SAN ANTONIO – The Cowboys were on the practice field when the news broke of Brett Favre's reported retirement from the NFL.

The immediate reaction: skepticism.

"Is that big news?" wide receiver Patrick Crayton said. "It's every year. It's Groundhog Day for him."

"Again?" coach Wade Phillips said facetiously. "Just use the same quotes I had last year and the year before that." (good one.... :clap2:)

Brett Favre has told ESPN's Ed Werder that he will play for the Vikings this season as long as he's healthy.

To be clear, no final decision has been made yet. Favre is still testing his surgically repaired ankle. His presence on a Mississippi high school field Wednesday morning is obviously a positive sign. Favre denies sending a retirement text message to any Vikings personnel, and we still expect Favre to re-join his teammates before the start of the season.
