Steelers (http://triblive.com/sports/steelers/) linebacker coach Keith Butler already had first-round pick Jarvis Jones, but wasn't nearly satisfied.
Butler wanted more in the second round.

“I told them the last time we picked first and second with linebackers, we won the Super Bowl two years later,” Butler said. “I tried to make that argument.”

You'd figure a team that has $117 million tied up with their three returning linebackers — not including using the 17th overall pick on the position — would make Butler breathe a little easier.

Think again...............

Bad news on the Spence front, but here's hoping Robinson will make a run at a starting role and Sylvester will have woken up. And of course, hoping Woodley 2012 has been exorcised and we will have Woodley 3.0 for the coming season.

From the tweet page, Sylvester better step his ass up this year.

I wonder if Arthur Brown was the LB he wanted in the 2nd. Kinda wish Butler had gotten his way.

And I wouldn't really rush to conclusions on the Spence situation. Safe to say, he's out this year, but the FO wouldn't keep him around if there wasn't some hope for his return.

I to am hoping for a full recovery by Spence, but the fact that he has damage to his peroneal nerve and isn't even walking yet is worrisome. If anything I hope the Steelers keep him on the roster till 2015, so he is at least eligible for some sort of pension.

Personally, I think that we're going to regret not taking Brown. With Jones in the 1st and Brown in the 2nd, I would've been in Heaven!

i agree, and i see some serious bust value in bell. even if bell pans out i think its going to be a couple of years before he refines his game

Yeah, Brown would have been a great combo with Jones, but I agree we needed a true RunningBack.
He may have been a reach in the 2nd rd, and they supposedly come a dime a dozen, but Bell CAN play!
A lot of other fans were more upset that we took Landry Jones, when John Simon was still available.
I was happy with Jones, UNTIL I realized Simon was available.
We could have upgraded BOTH positions considerably, in that case..

I think Vince Williams looks pretty darn good.

Agreed. Forgot about that late rounder. Definitely as much potential as Simon, if not more.
Tho it pains a longtime Buckeye Fan, to admit it...

That was a pretty good video. What stood out to me about him was that he can read a play, can tackle, shred blocks, and has speed to get from one side of the field to the other to make a play. His coverage skills are decent and should probably be worked on. I also noticed he left his man to go to the quarterback and that could have been bad. The biggest thing I noticed was that he sometimes ran to the runner to make the tackle or waited for the running back to come to him. Overall, he looks like a good linebacker.

Not much gets by him....and he likes to pop the guy with the ball. :chuckle:

This is what you were talking about:
Strengths

Aggressive run defender who isn't afraid to "shoot his gun" and attack the ball. A quick accelerator who can close on the ball. Generally a reliable open-field tackler and flashes an explosive pop. Plays the game angry, showing some nastiness as a tackler. Possesses a short, stocky frame that and good upper body strength, which allows him to take on blocks and, if not break free from them, at least hold up the action, helping to create a pile.
