48. Steelers: Linebacker Manti Te’o, Notre Dame

TomlinSteelTribe
04-26-2013, 02:09 PM
I'd like to see either RB or S in Rd 2. I see ILB as a need but a little farther down on the list of priorities (above TE for sure). Foote's okay for this season, and beyond that in '14, hopefully Spence can be ready. I guess we'll see who falls. Doubt it's Te'o.

Mistah Q
04-26-2013, 02:14 PM
A lot of people disagree with me but I'd be pleased as a pig in cleveland if we got Te'o in round two.

Jarvis and Teo 1-2 would make me forget all about Spence, Foote, about missing out on Hightower and Willis, about how mediocre Timmons has been, etc.

Teo opposite of Timmons makes Timmons a lot better too... and extends Kiesel's career, and makes our young CBs just a little better. We'll still need to address safety but this is a deep draft for Safeties... bring on Rambo in round 3.

Spike
04-26-2013, 02:15 PM
you know there's most likely going to be a frenzy run on CB's early

maybe RB's and WR's too

I don't want to miss out there - we need playmakers on offense

Mistah Q
04-26-2013, 02:18 PM
2. Te'o
3. Baccari Rambo
4. Stedman Bailey
5. Robert Lester
6. Jake Stoneburner
6. Ace Sanders
7. Random scrub

And I'm a happy man

Just seems likely that there will be an extended stretch of the season without one or both of Polamalu and Clark. Hope I'm absolutely wrong on this, but if history's any indicator... I've heard it's a deep S class, so I guess rd 2 isn't a must.

Unless we plan on getting Bradshaw, I'd like to see a quality RB come in. WR, yeah, I'd like to see us draft one or two, but I think Plax has a little something left in the tank for one more season. He's a large part of the reason I don't see TE as such a pressing need. It's feasible he could serve in the big target, pass-catching role a TE usually provides. Cotchery's nothing to brag about, but he's adequate as a #3/#4. Wouldn't mind seeing Bernard in Rd 3, if he's a available. I like those MJD type of bowling ball backs.

Mistah Q
04-26-2013, 02:33 PM
I wouldn't mind grabbing Lattimore in round 4 if he's there, grab Bradshaw and hope it works out and then maybe say goodbye to everyone else not named Dwyer...

steelreserve
04-26-2013, 02:34 PM
Te'o is going to be long gone by the time we pick, or I will be shocked. There are a couple of safeties I'd love to have. We'd probably have to make a big move or be lucky to get Cyprien, which I don't see us doing (we may also be shy about drafting a DB from a tiny school highly after the Ricardo Colclough fiasco). A few mocks have us getting Swearinger, which would be fine by me.

Honestly, I think safety is on our minds because a) this is a rare draft where there are a lot of good ones, and b) we let two of them go in the offseason and didn't do anything to replace them. If we don't take one in round 2, I think it's because someone else of too-good-to-be-true value falls.

Dwinsgames
04-26-2013, 02:38 PM
we should care there is a TON of talent yet to be drafted !!
my short list would be in no specific order for the next 2 rounds

yabbut, you can only have 2

and how the hell did the Bengals get so far ahead of us in rd 2?

48) Pittsburgh Steelers -- Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech. Patton is not a blazer, but he is a polished playmaker with the skills to develop into a No. 1 receiver as a pro.

Spike

After the Holmes situation, that's a relief

I don't care about wake&bake

I want a guy that can catch & run

I don't know anything about him, so...

Patton and the rest of the Louisiana Tech offense took the nation by storm in 2012. Their up-tempo passing offense racked up huge scores, tons of yardage, and a 9-3 record. Patton starred in the offense, earning first-team All-WAC honors and second-team All-American honors thanks to his 104 catches for 1,392 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Strengths

Good size for the position, has the height and length to play outside at the next level. Very good acceleration off the line, gets to full speed in a couple of steps and can shimmy to free himself and stick his foot in the ground to get inside position on slants. Uses a head fake to get the seam and possesses enough straight-line speed to take advantage of hesitating cornerbacks in off coverage. Fluid, economic mover who does plays under control. Stems to separate with good foot quickness on comebacks and out routes, also extends his arm to create space on short and deep routes. Natural hands catcher - catches the ball with his hands away from his body, even when tracking passes over either shoulder. Wins jump balls in the end zone and over the middle with good vertical and great concentration. Acrobatic and excellent at adjusting to the ball in the air, especially to the back-shoulder on fades. Good sideline awareness to get two feet in-bounds while making the catch. Used on quick throws to take advantage of his shiftiness and surprisingly tough running, lowers his shoulder and is not easy for smaller cornerbacks to drag down after the catch. Sells routes where he knows he’s not the primary target to free up the underneath or cross-field receiver. Shows fight as a run blocker, willing to hit multiple punches to keep his man at bay and works himself into the correct blocking angle. Hustles downfield to help out fellow ballcarriers. Plays with a feisty attitude.

Weaknesses

Extends his hands from his frame, but doesn’t snatch and secure the ball, making him struggle coming down with the ball when the defensive back contests him. As such, does not always find the ball downfield or come up with catchable passes when adjusting to it in the air. Inconsistent catching punts as a returner, makes some tough grabs running towards the sideline.

NFL Comparison. Reggie Wayne

A first-team All-WAC pick in 2011 and 2012, Patton accumulated 2,544 yards and 24 touchdowns in his career with the Bulldogs after transferring from Coffeyville Community College. He’s an acrobat along the sideline and a vertical stem threat much, but needs to improve attacking the ball when contested. In his two seasons starting, however, he has showing NFL teams paying close attention that he possesses the hands, route-running skills, and toughness to be a top-64 pick -– and, eventually, a very good starter.

Brown would make a really good ILB in the 3-4 , had talked about him in other parts of the forum and he is on my short list for the second round I posted earlier in this thread ... would be a great pick but to many good football players in the middle rounds to spend 2 to get 1 player IMO ( Brown could fall to us anyways )
