One of the many conclusions the Steelers coaches made following a review of the 2009 season is that James Farrior has not lost a step.
That is why the Steelers plan on keeping the 35-year-old inside linebacker on the field for all downs even though he appeared to have trouble shadowing running backs in pass coverage last season.
“It’s not that he’s losing any speed,” Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler said. “He still runs as fast as he used to. He just got out of position a couple of times at the wrong time.”.................

farrior looked fine the first half of the year. to me it just looked like he was worn out by the 4th qt the last 6 or 7 games.

i think farrior especially (or anyone) looks like they lost a step w/o polamalu behind him. with troy out, im sure he had a bit more of added responsibility and was expected to do (and cover) a bit more. i'd also wager that troy might look like he lost a slight step w/o farrior infront of him.

farrior had 2 really bad plays last year where he was caught slightly out of position (vs b. leonard and r. rice), but for every one of those bad plays, people froget 5 good ones.

farrior was all over ray rice, in the steelers 15th game.

It might be too late to help quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who got himself into a jackpot in a VIP bathroom in a Milledgeville, Ga., college bar and is facing at least a four-game suspension to start the NFL season. It's also too late to help wide receiver Santonio Holmes, who had a variety of legal problems before he was traded to the New York Jets. But it's not too late to help Maurkice Pouncey. Jason Worilds. Emmanuel Sanders. Even the younger veterans on the Steelers.
"I try to tell those guys it's all about using their time better and making better decisions," linebacker James Farrior said at training camp this week. "Most of it is just common sense. You're a grown man. You know what to do and what not to do. You know what's going to get you in trouble. Stay away from it."
That's just like Farrior to try to turn Roethlisberger's and Holmes' mistakes into something positive for the Steelers. He's a terrific team leader, in the mold of Jerome Bettis before him. The football team might be coach Mike Tomlin's, but the locker room is Farrior's. When he speaks, the younger players listen. If they don't, they are fools.

I think they should rotate Foote or Fox in for Farrior to give him a breather when he needs one and keep him fresh all year.
