The police were acting stupidly.
This guy should be fired immediately if he does not know the law or thinks he is above them.

I don't have a blood pressure problem, but I fear that doing that would create one.

I hear ya, this kind of shit gets my blood pumping too. I understand the police deal with a lot of bad guys but in most times can easily defuse a situation instead they opt to tack on some charges and thump their chest.

They had the opportunity to do their checks and release him, but chose to charge him with BS. I think they do this (create a charge) to justify the whole stopping him thing in case of a law suit, but it's still BS. If they had law enforcement officers that knew the law, then they wouldn't have to worry about law suits. Or maybe I'm being silly. I don't even know anymore.

I hope he files and wins a huge civil lawsuit. Nice way to treat a soldier.
"He checked out, should we let him go?"
"Nah, he's a real dick and hurt my feelings. Let's charge him with resisting search and take him to jail."
"Yeah, what a dick. This will teach him to mess with us!"

Officers need to be a cautious Andy Taylor. Don't assume there is "no" threat, but at the same time exercise a bit of common sense.
If the fellow simply carrying that weapon was not illegal, just like the fellow said, the officer should have asked him to put the weapon down, done a check on him to sort things out and then sent him on his way.
Those cops are idiots.

Absolutely. I saw that video earlier today and it made me cringe.

Most cringeworthy moments from that:
"We're exempt from the law"
"I don't care what the law is"
