After going through the team’s first voluntary conditioning workouts on Monday, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/team/roster/ben-roethlisberger/54dda34e-9e43-4c57-9397-1143ddced5d6/) signaled for the large turnout of players to gather around him on the field.

While his words couldn’t be heard beyond the tight knit group that formed a circle around him, his actions certainly could. It was a true sign of leadership, Roethlisberger showing that he is not just committed to winning, but to being one of the true veteran leaders on the team.

“I wanted to tell them this is the start of the 2013 season,” said Roethlisberger. “It’s important for us to know if we want to be the best we can be it starts now. I wanted to let them know that I am here to help and support them, and I plan on leading any way I can.”...........

Hate to say it, but BR7 has never struck me as a natural leader. A competitor, for sure, but he also has "dimwitted follower" written all over him. Good qb but lacks the qualities to serve as a leader. Of course, people change, so I'll be happy if I'm wrong on this.

I've never thought of Ben as a team leader. Until now. I think this is his time to take that title and run with it if ever there was one. He is the quarterback, one of the most tenured players on the team and is still an elite player in this league. I think this is the year we see Ben the leader. And this isn't something I say every offseason or anything, thisi s the first time I've felt this way. I hope I'm right.

This. All the previous leaders are gone. Ben's going to have to take it on his shoulders now. I don't see anyone else stepping up on the offense, at least. As for the defense, I don't know.
