DENVER - A bill allowing lower tuition rates for illegal immigrant students received final approval from state House lawmakers Friday.
The bill passed 40-21 and will now proceed to Gov. John Hickenlooper, who is expected to sign the bill. Three Republicans joined with all the Democratic lawmakers to approve the bill.
Hickenlooper tweeted, "Undocumented kids will now have a fair and equitable way to pursue a higher education in CO. Well done."

The Air Force has joined the Marines and the Army in dropping tuition assistance due to sweeping federal budget cuts.
Word of the decision began reaching airmen in the Pacific on Tuesday morning. During a commander’s call at Yokota Air Base, 374th Airlift Wing commander Col.
Mark August told airmen that applications for tuition assistance submitted after March 12 likely would be rejected by the Air Force.
“I suggest you call and see where your application’s at,” he said.

WASHINGTON — A new medal that would honor drone pilots and cyber warriors and outrank battlefield combat medals such as the Purple Heart and Bronze Star is facing backlash from veterans organizations and members of Congress, with a bipartisan group of 22 senators pressing the Pentagon to change the designation.

What the fuck is going on??? I mean seriously, I read stories like this every single day and just shake my head. It's not even a matter of conservatism vs. liberalism anymore it's simply a matter of lawmakers lacking common sense. At this point I'm starting to stare at news articles like these in total disbelief. How did we let our nation get to this point? I long for the years where common sense was at least found on an occasional basis. And I'm 23. How are, not only my peers, but also generations who have proceeded me largely sitting back and nodding their heads in approval of travesties such as these? I used to think of myself as rather liberal as far as social issues are concerned (pro gay marriage, pro choice) but by todays standards I'd probably be labeled a good ol' boy. Am I the only one in total disbelief at some of this stuff? I mean I'm not just angry and upset about it, I actually can't believe that some of these nonsensical decisions are being made.

That's about all I can do right now. But to be honest, these kinds of politicians are exactly what we deserve for not properly vetting our candidates and electing people with absolutely NO common sense. I mean really? Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to lower tuition for illegals, but not for American citizens and LEGAL immigrants?

I'm surprised they haven't started calling illegal immigrants "unregistered citizens" or "citizens in waiting".

I used to enjoy browsing the news at work during the occasional quiet shift. I read those pieces along with a few others last night that just made my blood boil. Had to rant somewhere. I don't even want to pay attention to the media anymore whether it's on television or publication.

Oh god don't even say that. I could totally see it.

I think GBMelBlount summed it up best: "This country is toast."
And as a Colorado citizen, I am proud to say I voted against Hickenlooper in the last gubernatorial election and against both Rhonda Fields (State Representative) and Nancy Todd (State Senator) this past November, both of whom also voted for giving illegals lower tuition.

^ This. Ultimately it's our fault for not taking enough interest.

There were two schools of thought on this board going into last election.
1. Anything is better than Obama
2. Romney is no better than Obama and if this country hits rock bottom the miseducated zombie population will be spontaneously imparted with common sense and a newly found appreciation for freedom and capitalism.
Good luck with that number 2'ers.

Lots of people here are pretty pissed about tuition assistance being dropped. A lot of people were in the middle of getting thier degree and now have to find other options for school. This will hurt retention and recruiting big time. Taking TA away from the military is just a political game to make the sequestration as painful as possible. There are plenty of cuts that could have been made, taking schooling away from the military is nothing more than the govt saying fuck you military, you don't matter

There won't be any interest untill these decisions directly affect the uninterested.
My wife and kids don't give two shits about politics or anything else to do with running the country. As long as nothing changes for them, they're good to go. I think a large portion of the country is like that. I think/hope in the near future this country is going to wake up... but it won't be untill enough people are pissed off about what is now affecting them.

Every American politician takes care of "themselves" and their personal interests first, then the American people come second. There's "some kind" of benefit to the politician in this case that we are overlooking, why else would they pass such lunacy ?

That should start happening about the time they start getting fined $700 for not having health insurance.

Yeah, and don't forget 4 years earlier, when the choice was between Obama and McCain with the same people on each side of the argument. It'll be more of the same in 2016 if the people in group #1 don't get their shit together and quit nominating east coast liberals who are barely (if at all) less objectionable than their opponents.

Yeah, so you said.
Just makin' sure you're aware that things haven't changed. Those of us who stand *for* something won't just fall in line behind whatever sad excuse the Republicans dump on us just because he claims to be *against* what's going on. We did it the last 2 elections and we'll keep on doing it until you get the hint.
You may think we're wrong, but we are consistent. :wink02:

I agree with libertarians in principle and would have no problem at all voting for a libertarian if they got the nod.
I just personally think you are arrogant, self righteous, condescending and whine like a woman with a chapped vajajay.

So then, rather than kick up another potential flame war, how about pointing out what he said that was wrong?
And there's always the ignore feature if you don't like him or what he has to say.

Thank you, Sir.
People tend to make things personal when they don't have an argument. I don't get easily offended, but it would be nice if we could discuss things without going this route.
Mel,
If you can't talk about this without getting all mad-faced, you shouldn't bring it up IMO. If I come off as "condescending", it's only because I'm confident that I know what I'm talking about. "Self- righteous" only because I stand on principle. As for the rest of it... I'm not the one who brought it up, am I? ;)
If it bothers you that much, you might want to look at why.
/ carry on, Sir

The latest term I have heard illegals called is "Undocumented Workers." That is an obvious step in this direction. Ugh...

Or "migrant farmers" or simply "immigrants". And of course the media uses the same terms.
Of course, the term "migrant" implies seasonal travel in 2 opposite directions rather than just one, and I have yet to meet anyone who's against immigrants... but why let "facts" spoil a good meme?
Ironically, a solid majority of Americans still want to deport illegals, but you won't hear that on the news.

Absolutely. I have a lot of friends who had their entire degrees planned out and are totally screwed now. In my opinion it's a disgrace to take any allowances away from the military. There are so many other places we could make cuts.
