No re-election to worry about.

Talk about a drop in the bucket. 85 Billion when you are talking about Trillions of dollars. Ratio of 2.4% Yup, pretty hard to make those cuts.

I think his plan is to take over the House, and this is somehow part of the plan. No way he justs basically sits back and lets this happen if he "really" was concerned about the people affected. He knows the polls say the House will get blamed "more" than he would, thus, let the ax fall. It's ironic, a company (like AT&T, Standard Oil, Microsoft, etc...) cannot get a Monopoly in business, but a political party CAN get a Monopoly over the government. He wants total control of the 3 branches of government again. If he pulls it off, he'd be unstoppable. Won't have to worry about re-election. Could pass ANY law he wants to. There could be no better prize for him right now.

He's just playing out the same tactic that has been used countless times at the local level all across the country: lose a referendum on higher taxes and force the cuts to happen in the most inconvenient and politically advantageous ways possible.
Tho other side has apparently never learned the proper counter to that move; publicly charge them with incompetence.

If only everyone else was as smart as you.

YOU are getting exactly what YOU deserve.

Personally, I think we will barely notice this sequester. All of this has been nothing more than a scare tactic to suck in the uneducated masses (which unfortunately is growing larger and larger every day).

Besides, if I was getting what I deserve we'd be seeing actual *cuts* to government spending instead of tiny reductions in the rate of growth. :focus:

That was my next question, sorry to lazy to research it, are these real spending cuts or just a reduction in growth? The way it is being reported up here, you would think the world is going to end. $85b, sad to say, is a pittance in the overall spending of the US government. The fact that Obama is allowed to spin this as detrimental to the free world makes me wonder where the intelligence level is of our society and the reporters. I'm sure the markets are going into a tail spin on Monday.

Count,
They're just a tiny reduction in the rate of growth. Our Federal government still has a bigger budget this year than it did last year, and a bigger budget still every year following.

So all the noise about this "brutal" the sequestration is just a lot of cynical posturing.

Imagine if they did something ballsy like capping spending to this years level, with NO increases for the next 5 years. You know, actually do something fiscally responsible? Heads would asplode!

Their now saying that the majority of the cuts are targeted in Republican districts and interests... looks like Obama won again.

White House Finally Admits Sequester Was Obama’s Idea

Even after liberal columnist Bob Woodward was threatened by the White House and berated by his own liberal colleagues for stating that the budget sequester was in fact, Barack Obama's idea, the White House kept blaming Republicans for the mess. But now, on Meet The Press with David Gregory this morning, the man who sent the threatening email to Bob Woodward, Gene Sperling admitted that, yes, in fact, sequestration was President Obama's plan.

So a presidential adviser is likening Boehner and the Republican Congress to mugging Obama and forcing this idea out of him. Watch the video exchange below from Meet The Press this morning and see that awkward exchange between Sperling and Gregory. The video also includes a segment where President Obama lies in the debate and says the sequester was not his idea, which we now know not to be true.

Nah. Once 2014 rolls around, the country will get rid of those damn obstructionist teabagging Republicans in the House (it's all their fault anyhow), and the government can go back to being the model of efficiency and achievement that it was when the Dems controlled the White House and both houses of Congress between 2009-11, when it passed the wonderful piece of legislation known as the Affordable Care Act and, well, not much else, really. :coffee:

Yeah, he won. But it's not because of where these "cuts" happened, but because pretty much nobody (even Republicans) aren't talking about how they're *not even cuts*.

Tell that to all the civilian workers at Eglin Air Force base and Hulbert field who've had their days and pay cut 20%. Tell that to the surrounding community of Ft. Walton Beach who depend on the discretionary income of military employees to support their business's as they have done through the years. This is occuring at just about every military installation throughout the country. So maybe it's no sweat off your ass, but to thousands of people this is life changing.

There are cuts. I only wish you could feel it like many people I know are feeling it. Then perhaps you wouldn't be so callous and cavalier about every fucking thing.

An overall budget cut of 2.4% wouldn't hurt anything much at all. But as Ben Stein said, instead of taking a scalpel to the overall budget and carefully parsing away the fat, Obama is taking a sledge hammer and bludgeoning certain areas so there will be a hard felt affect that will draw notice. And then of course placing blame entirely on the mean old Republicans, when of course the truth is he and the Democrats made no effort whatsoever to be even handed, sensible, responsible and fair with the neccessary budget cuts.

Those that are in the path of the hammer are very much going to be hurt.

Zu,
I'd get into a big argument about people in the private sector vs. government contractors and who's been " taking pay cuts", but that (just like this whole sequestration dog 'n' pony show) is beside the point.
Here's the real point: We have about 5 years until our government is borrowing more money than it takes in. And that's *with* sequestration.
You think things are bad now?

Unfortunately, our public school systems and news networks have programmed our population WHAT to think and bludgeoned them with the message that our countries problems are caused by unchecked freedom and greed.

This country is toast....and by the time the majority wakes up, which I doubt will happen, we will already have hit the iceberg.

We will see in 2 years if the libertarian party has any traction but it is just too easy to paint them as extremist kooks to the walking dead who make up the majority of the voting base in this country.
