Jackson, the Rams' career rushing leader, plans to void the final year of his contract to become a free agent March 12, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Monday.

Jackson has topped 1,000 yards rushing for eight seasons running. But with his 30th birthday approaching in July, the Rams appeared uninterested in giving Jackson a lucrative extension beyond the 2013 season. When the sides were unable to reach agreement before last season, the Rams gave Jackson the ability to void his deal in March 2013.

Going to be a lot of high profile free agents out there.

A lot of mileage on that tread. Can't really say I blame the Rams when they're making every effort to improve.

Yeah, but still he got over 1000 yards and averaged over 4 yards per carry last season. So he probably has one or two good years left in him. There's a right fit out there somewhere for him.

Yep, he's still a stud. Maximum effort on every play, great work effort and a great team player.

He's got a couple of good years left in him. I hope that he gets a chance at a ring.

Here's the plan:

1. Go to the Jets
2. Say you've got a feeling you're going to help them win the Super Bowl
3. Don't win the Super Bowl
4. Don't gain any yards either
5. Wallow in your own crapulence and retire

Back side of a career looking for that last lucrative contract....That sounds more like the kind of guy we cut....not the kind of guy we would pick up.

Yea I would have loved to have had him in his prime but at this point in his career I wouldn't want him.

No one said anything about signing him.
