He's been in porno. Don't believe me? Google his name...

He actually hasn't coached since his days in Tampa.

He's sixty-five, I don't think he did porn. :chuckle: From what I understand, he is a stickler for detail and technique.

Do any of you notice another trend in the last few coaches?

Carnell Lake - played for the Steelers in the 90s.
Fitchner - grew up just west of the Pennsylvania border in Cleveland Ohio
Todd Haley - from Western Pennsylvania
Jerry Olsavsky - played for Pittsburgh, college in Pittsburgh, grew up just across the Western Pennsylvania border in Youngstown Ohio.
And now Mann, who grew up in . . . Aliquippa.

Anybody see a home-grown pattern here?

As long as they get the job done, I don't care where they're from. :chuckle:

But yes, I've definitely noticed that.

Strange that he didn't evolve into an OC or something. He sure must know a thing or 2 about catching a football.

Dick Mann is a pretty good porn name. Maybe now Wallace will have sticky finger?

Yea, I've mentioned that here before. Sometimes I get the feeling that the Steelers are more interested in hiring someone with Steeler connections than hiring the best person for the job.

Yeah, but the guys they have hired at least have a track record of success to go along with their Steeler connections. Even ST coach Smith has had success in his career, though I'm still not thrilled with the hire. We're not exactly talking about a bunch of jabronis here.

I think I read somewhere that Mann is LeBeau's Great Grandson.

His track record is a bit too long. The teams that he coached on haven't exactly produced top notch WRs either. The fact that he hasn't even been in the NFL for a few years concerns me also.

I'm willing to give him a chance but I'm not going to get excited about his hiring.

from the article.

For the past few years, Mann has been assisting and consulting players as they prepare for the NFL Draft.

Fair enough. Honestly, this entire off-season has left me less than excited. Who knows what we're going to get next season and beyond. Seems to me the vibe of the franchise has changed since Art II took over, and not necessarily for the best.

Well. I know since Lake took over the secondary, the secondary that sucked to high heaven for soo many years is now #1 for two years straight. Now if Mann can get help get the WR's corps in the top 5 the team would be amazing.

Lake is a completely different situation though. I was excited about that hire because I used to watch him play and loved the way he played. Similar to the same way that I would feel if Hines were to be hired as the WR coach.

I'm hoping papa Dan will get the ship back on course. Give Art a pointer or 2.
