Would you give him 1 more chance?

I just don't know. The "disorderly conduct" no contest plea raises a lot of red flags. I know someone will say "but wait, it wasn't any kind of abuse or battery charges." They'd be right, to a point. "Disorderly Conduct" is what it gets reduced to when the DA doesn't want to waste the time with it but the guy is guilty - or it's an assured conviction rather than there being a chance that the defendant could slip through the cracks.

I'd say if he's still available in a couple months, then talk with him and make it absolutely clear that he's coming in on a one strike rule. "Get a traffic ticket, and you're gone." That's the only way I'd really be okay with it.

What I find interesting is that his case has been dealt with and Ta'amu hasn't been tried yet. Or at least I haven't heard anything about it.

Rainey needs to have a serious sit down with the Steelers and seek mercy. I did find it strange that the Steelers waived him without having all the facts. Perhaps he was already on a short leash.

No, he's not an NFL RB. I'd rather have someone else on the roster. He didn't show me anything his rookie year.

Was it all him or bad special teams in general? :noidea: Everytime he took one home, it got called back. That return for a TD in the superbowl made me sick....

Exactly. He had what, 4 or 5 very nice runbacks called back.

With another thread here talking about how the Steelers need speed, Rainey fills the bill, and he is familiar with the offense.

Again, though, the FO must know something we don't to pull the trigger that quick on him. He can't be making much of a salary, so I don't think money is the issue.

I'd be more inclined to give someone with a better character another chance. He just didn't show me the speed and quickness that I thought he would.

I wouldn't have cut him to start with. I think Haley would find better play options for him in his second year. He did pretty good on special teams. Cutting Rainey and keep Ta'amu is like dropping a saucy meatball on a white shirt.....at a nice restaurant. Of course the FO couldn't cut two of it's draft picks in the same year because that would surely reflect on them.

I thought Rainey did pretty well.

He was not lightning fast but he is quick and shifty.

While I respect their decision on a personal level, as a player I wish he had had another year or two to develop.

I thought he played pretty well this year and, we all know some other team will sign him. Sure he is a risk but, he could be a game changer type of player when used correctly. He showed flashes of that while he was here.

i really think he might come back, but i also believe he might be playing for the fins as well

i would give him another shot i really like him in the return game, he is looking to score everytime he touches it. I would also like to see him take over punt return duties because if brown is going to be our number 1 i dont want him risking injury.

I don't see this as a possibility at all. There was a definite note of finality with the comments Colbert made about Rainey's release, and the adjudication of his arrest didn't seem to concern him one way or the other.

The other thing is if there is another team interested in Rainey I can't see him going back to the Steelers after they showed zero amount of faith in him.

In other words I don't think either party is interested in the other right now.

Were it up to me he wouldn't have been released to begin with. So I'm not expressing how I would handle things, I'm just stating what I expect from the Steelers.

Strange, for the first time since the 60's, that's how I'm starting to feel about this FO

This is the sense I get from our FO also, I had an image in my head of a family type atmosphere within the organization but the more i hear the less i believe that.

Hard to understand where the FO is coming from. Especially when we don't know about all the conversations behind the scenes. Is it possible Rainey did some stuff around the offices or the practice field and he was put on notice? It sure seems strange how the Steelers are showing a lot of patience with some players and then let the ax fall immediately on Rainey.

I just dont sense that the players seem happy even our franchise guys.

Art Rooney II is missing two important ingredients that his Father and Grandfather (have-had)..... humility and a genuine care for people. Perhaps the multiple ownership has changed things too. I wouldn't be surprised to see this team sold within the next 10 years. It may be a good thing.

This.

I had big hopes and expected exciting things from him this year, and it just never happened. We are overloaded with back-up RBs. We need a #1 RB, not another "role player".

Yes, and the Steelers had big hopes for James Harrison and released him 3 times and the Ravens cut him once. Maybe they should give Rainey another shot.........

I don't remember the Steelers having 'big hopes' for James Harrison. He was an UDFA. A nobody on the PS. James made himself the player that he is today. I don't see that kind of fortitude in Rainey.

.......and the Steelers didn't see Harrison's fortitude until his 4th try.

The *big hopes* was in reference to the post above about Rainey, where the poster said he had he had * big hopes and expected exciting things* out of a 5th round pick in his first year. Since he had a James Harrison quote in his sig, I thought maybe one could see that some folks need more than one chance.

Gotcha. It does take multiple opportunities for some guys. Unfortunately with Rainey's character issues, I don't think that we'll see him again in a Steelers jersey.

I have to agree Rainey's days in Pittsburgh is over we will look else where for a replacement.
